    OME and worth every penny.
Common enough that I would hands down suggest his truck over the first gen. if not for the fact of it being a '05 w/o the gaskets already done.
My understanding is it has nothing to do with change intervals. Just dumb luck.

05s are ugly. plus pretty sure the whole head gasket thing is not if it happens its when it happens. Toyota goofed the design and changed it so they obviously knew it was shit. If you want the 05 I wouldn't pay 12900. I paid 12200 for mine with 80k miles on it and I still think I paid too much.

Maybe I worded that badly. It’s capable of being converter, however it isn’t bolt on like the first gen is.

Capable of being converter? Ah, so, no can spell either! Ok, will let you slide for the rest of the day only cause it's your birthday. But after 12am, back to normal! ;)

    - Slightly overpriced.
    - Easier to work on (to me, anyway.)
    - Quite possibly is about to need timing belt and valve cover gaskets, if not previously accomplished.
    - Smaller; easier to fit in the typical garage.

    '05--
    - Overpriced.
    - Smoother ride (in my limited experience.)
    - Bigger engine, could tow something pretty big, if you need the capability.
    - Has a timing chain that should never break, but might also need valve cover gaskets soon, if not previously accomplished.
    - If your father has had the vehicle for its whole life, then you're dealing with a known commodity, which has a value.

I certainly see where it's a hard call for the OP.

Thanks for the input everyone. I’m still a little torn, and maybe even more so now that everyone is saying they’re overpriced. I do believe they’re a bit overpriced and still will do some negotiating, but surprised to see some of you pay so low for your trucks. I’ve been shopping for a taco for months now, and these prices I’ve listed seem to be pretty consistent for year, mileage and DCB. I’m in northern Florida where trucks are a hot commodity, maybe that has to do with the higher prices...

1st gens are a hot commodity nearly everywhere in the US, some places not so much (maybe the midwest) but on the west coast they go for a premium even with 200k+ miles on them. The price is very dependent on your area, if it's in line with what else is out there near you then I wouldn't think of it as being overpriced

The prices seem about average to me from what I've seen in the PNW market.
