Nokian hakkapeliitta r3 SUV https://www.nokiantires.com/hakkapeliitta-r3. Don’t let the SUV part scare you. The Tacoma is lighter than many medium and large SUV’s. Weather in my neighbourhood is currently cold and snowing with ice covered roads. Handling is excellent and traction is top notch.

^^ We've had all three on cars, and they all worked great. For a pickup, my year-round go-to tire is Duratrac. Excellent performance in the snow, for what it's worth.

I had blizzaks on my awd evo for 3 seasons here in Canada. First 2 winter seasons, they were amazing, never did I notice any loss in grip turning or stopping. But on the 3rd season, thats when they started to lose their grip.

Just picked up my tacoma two months ago and I'm also looking for winter tires. I probably will either get blizzaks or try out the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3. Heard great reviews on the nokians and they should last longer than the blizzaks.

Don't forget that winter tires will wear more quickly once warmer weather hits. Michelin has winter tires that have 40,000 mile warranties, the only tire manufacturer that provides an actual wear warranty. Either that or swap out in early spring and save them for future winters.

After scouring reviews I’ve ordered a set of the General Grabber Arctic LT winter tires. I was attacted to the fact that they are supposed to have some resistance to chipping and wear on gravel roads, which I may see more of than snow this winter. No personal experience to report yet, but an option to consider.

Lot of good choices have already been mentioned, but if you'd rather not deal with a separate set of tires, find an all-season tire that is 3PMSF (three-peak mountain snowflake) rated. This indicates that the tire meets required performance criteria in snow testing to be considered severe snow service-rated.

The Falken Wildpeak A/T3W is one, as is the previously mentioned Nokian Hakkapeliitta.

I had Hakka's on a civic years ago and they were amazing. I'm going to give the R3s a go on the Tacoma. They are pricey but the reviews are really amazing.

Probably already answered somewhere on these forums, but if you do a wheel swap (winters for summers or vice versa) do you need to anything additional when you change out the wheels (balancing, etc) besides just changing the wheels out and tightening the bolts to the right torque specs?

Only thing I do is mark which corner the wheels come off of, so I can rotate them when I put them back on.

Who is shopping Winters this year?
My Blizzak DV-1 are done after 8 seasons.. looking for new tires come fall.
We are in southern interior of BC, so winter snowflake is required, but most of the season is partial covered and or wet snow.

Top of the list is the Blizzak LT or DM-V2 again or W965 or even Michelin LTX

Another option would be a more aggressive all weather tire like the Toyo C/T or DuraTrac that does winter alright but would be better during the shoulder seasons..

My winter experience with duratrac’s wasn’t a good one. They were ‘ok’ when new but after 7-10k miles they were not good at all... bad I’d say. I use the DM-V2 right now and it has been fantastic. I was also blown away by the performance of BFG AT KO2s.. especially when new till about 20k miles they were 95% as good as a dedicated studless winter tire. So much so that when my DM-V2’s either age out or wear out I’ll be going to a BFG AT KO2 as a one and only all year tire.

I’ve got the DMV2s and haven’t been super impressed. Haven’t gotten great lateral traction with them. Always had WS80s on my Subarus so I’ve been a long time Blizzak fan.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 will be my next set.

I use WS80’s on my 2016 miata ND and 2018 Subaru Outback. They are really good!

My biggest concern is going from a dedicated winter like the Blizzaks that I know is fantastic, and am also used to (Our Subaru also has WS80 and is unstoppable) to an 'all weather' that is going to slide through a few intersections a year..
