Yes, you and I took part in the conversation about a year ago with the guy who bought a kit he was willing to loan out......BUT he wasn't a prolific poster here. May not be around any more.

This should be done by the board as a collective move.

Ahh ok I knew I had seen it somewhere. My bad, should have looked back in my posts. Must have been a while ago.

I think its an awesome idea....BUT! While I'm sure most of the people on the board are decent and honest, theres always gonna be somebody who won't return the kit, wont pass it on to the next guy, receives it and is never heard from again, etc, etc.... It would be ideal if there were a way to have the guy who needs it put down a deposit, refundable when the kit is returned or shipped to the next guy. I dont know how this could be done, but I know thats basically what AutoZone, Oreillys, etc do for their loaner tools. At least then there would be less of a chance of the kit going missing and all that money being wasted. I dont know whats all involved in that, especially online and such. And obviously somebody handing over a hundred or 2 bucks to a couple dudes on a forum as a "deposit" would not be something I would do unless I could guarantee I get my money back. Possibly a site like PayPal has provisions for this??? Or some other secure online payment method?? Just some thoughts.

Maybe just sell the kit when you get through with it?

I figured we gather up shims from donors, make or buy a few tools and put a 100 dollar price on it.

Motorcycle boards all do it. Most have 2-3 floating at a time. Bikes need adjusments every 10K miles or so. Like VW's used to.

Yeah that's what I would do if I had bought a kit.

Yeah, if there were some donors and sponsors that would pitch in that's not unreasonable at all. Sounds like a better plan.
