On advice from a friend, I painted the TOYOTA lettering dark, and added a color matched plastic insert behind it to make it stand out.

Use the small frame insert around the lettering as a template. Trace this on a sturdy plastic sheet (a thick For Sale sign from Home Depot should work.) Make sure you mark where the screw holes go. Cut and paint. Put a few coats of clear coat to protect it. Drill out the holes that you marked earlier. Then just screw on with the lettering insert. You may need to use longer screws depending on the thickness of the plastic used.
Note: this was done on an eBay pro grill. I have not verified that the lettering on the OEM grill is a sperate piece. Ymmv.
