I have a 1999 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Extended Cab 4x4 V6 Automatic that was rolled. I need another cab for it. Will a pre-runner cab fit? I have been told by a couple people that a 2wd cab will not work but I'm not 100% on that either.

if donor is an extended cab, yes it will work.

Also, pre-runners are 2wd trucks in 4x4 disguise, meaning that they have the same parts as 4x4 trucks, except for the transfer case (which they don't have).
The only way to distinguish between a prerunner and a 4x4 is to look under it and see if it has a transfer case

Pretty sure a cab from a good old 2wd would work as well, as long as it is the same configuration (reg cab, ext cab, double cab). The trucks dimensions do not change, no matter 2wd or 4x4

Thanks, I had a body shop tell me that as far as they knew a 2wd would not work and they were not positive about the pre-runner cab.

I am located in Franklin, GA. About an hour SW of Atlanta. I purchased a 1996 truck with intentions of swapping the cabs but to be honest the '96 is in too good condition to tear apart. It still runs and drives great. So I am thinking of selling it and finding a 2wd or pre-runner that doesn't run but the cab is still good.
