Hello all, I completely understand that LT is for extending travel and pushing everything outward, however, I was wondering how much higher tacos sit with LT. Is there a way to stay close to stock height with long travel? Are the shocks/spindles what actually provides the lift part?

Regardless of 2wd or 4wd the ride height is mostly determined by the coilover adjustments. The coilover is a big aluminum tube with threads on the outside. Up top is a big nut that you can crank down to compress the coil more. The more you compress the coil, the higher the truck sits and vice versa. However, I believe the lowest you can sit with them is about 2-3" due to the length of the coilover. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know with mid travel you can sit at stock height if you want. But even 2-3" lift looks really good imo you'll sit about as high as your average stock full size truck and it won't look ridiculous. If you are 2wd many people get lift spindles to make the truck sit even higher, but those are completely optional.

You wouldn't want to stick at stock ride height because you'd scrape more often, but no reason you can't adjust coilovers to a 1.5-2" lift. It all depends on what spring rate you run for minimum ride height - if you really wanted to you could sit at stock height, but there's no reason to if you're using long travel suspension for what it's meant for.

With any +3.5 Long travel kit, you will gain about 4" of "lift" over stock. Ideally you do not want too much preload on your coilovers because your ride will be crap and you loose available down travel. There are alot of people who go with long travel and then have cranked coils. They clearly do not know the purpose of long travel.

You can also stick with 33's for tire size instead of going to 35's. I have 33's.

Why would you want to stick to a stock height? Most people looking for long travel are looking to gain more articulation and travel over stock. You can't have both.

Here is my truck. I have a +3.5 Chaos kit up front and a DMZ spring under conversion in the rear. Both front and rear have about 4" of "lift" over stock but way more travel. Compared to most builds, my truck looks pretty "sleeper".

Ive always wondered about the extra bit of Lt front lift opposed to mt and how that works with cv angles. Do extended axles help with that? Seems like a lot more people building 4x4 lt trucks these days

With my last taco I ran fox 2-3" 2.5 coils, w/ TC ucas, I also did the CMC and was on 35s, I hit a ditch going around a bend relatively slow and it rolled it so my mom isn't really into the whole "lifted" idea, I want to keep it as subtle looking as possible but have it perform the best it can.

You want a good amount of up and down travel to go fast meaning you have to set your ride height somewhere near the middle.

Im a fan of the lower looking trucks, and where I live all the trails are pretty flat. Obviously I am not considering LT just for looks but I was curious as to if it was possible to stay close to stock height.

The thing is you want your height to give you decent travel numbers going up and down.

I understand, i'm sorry about your loss. If you want to romp through the desert though with lt you'll probably have to settle for at least a 3" lift. Otherwise you'd have no uptravel, which is exactly what makes the spring over axle rear ends of these trucks suck.

my other problem is inspection. Im in Mass and currently living with my parents (im 17), so one of their rules is that if im gunna do anything to it, it has to pass, the rules here are brutal, anything over 2" typically doesn't pass.

Open a LLC in Montana and register it there haha.

Are you talking about 2" up or wider?
