Vinyl Bug Shield Crap

Hey guys i just got my 07 Sport a couple weeks ago and already have fell in love with it. Just one problem though. I guess whoever had it before me put it on but there is some kind of vinyl bug shield all over the front of the truck on the bumper, grill surround and the front of the hood. How do i get this crap off without messing up my paint? would there be any difference in the sheen or color of the paint under it? If i take it off im gonna strip all the wax i got on it now off and start over with a sealer and then more wax to try and get it to blend. any thoughts?

yeah if its the clear bar cover, why would you want that off? it protects the paint from scratches and rocks...

 

Keep it on. People pay good money to put that film on.

 

Yall think i should keep it on? I like the idea i just don't like the line across my hood where it stops. its a pain in the butt to keep wax from building up in that little ridge.

 

i'd say keep it. although its a pain to keep way from building up there, its better than it not being there and getting chips and scratches imho

 

Yeah I'd keep it on unless its some cheap material that is changing colors or something. I know the newer models that clear bra stuff is an option and people pay a pretty penny to have it put on.

yeah, what he said... that clear bar is very $$$ so it would actually decrease the value of your truck if you take it off.

 

Dang! I didn't know this stuff cost that much! It's not changin colors or anything so i'm gonna take yalls advice and keep it on. Im liking the tooth brush idea too. That wont scratch the paint will it? I'm trying to keep it lookin new for many years to come.

 

I'd keep the vinyl also.
The toothbrush will cause light marring in your clear coat over time. Use a boars hair brush... .

To combat wax buildup on the edge of the vinyl, apply and remove your wax in a motion coming "off" of the vinyl onto the paint.
This will lessen the amount of wax pushed "into" the vinyl edge.

These brushes are also great for washing panel gaps, badges, grill, fuel filler area.

By the way, if/when you do remove the vinyl, you'll definitely see a distinct shadow line from the protected area and the non-protected rest of hood. A competent detailer can detail, remove the shadow line and polish your paint to a near "new" condition for ~ $175-250.
Or for about the same money, you could buy a polisher, pads and polish and do it youself... it's very easy!
