Manual transmission gear oil

    My 99 Tacoma has developed a leak that appears to be coming from the rear seal of the transmission just before the drive shaft. What's got me puzzled is that the fluid is clear in color. Is this the normal color for the gear oil? Could it be something else, or am I missing something here?

    Yes it's clear maybe slightly yellow.

    Thanks. How difficult a project is it to replace the seal? I'm assuming drain the transmission, remove the drive shaft, work the old seal out and replace with new. Just don't know the difficulty of removing the old seal...
