They have less expensive units, look over the site. On sale now too. I bought the MK4 for $80, but it has bells and whistles I really don't need. It reads in 2 seconds, and reads with only 1/8 inch of the probe. In other words, you can check drummie temps.
Hey, this is TW. We are here to help you spend money! ;)

Thanks for it. I will keep your input under advisement. If I find the Thermopro doesn't cut it when I do my drummies, I guess I'll have to spend a bit more. ;)

A bite from the lone star tick will cause meat allergies to both beef and pork. And the little pricks are spreading fast.

The name has nothing to do with Texas it is because the female has a white spot on her back. I hate ticks, but this one I despise as the ultimate in evil. There was something like 5,000 cases last year and that is up double the number from 2 years ago.

One of these days I WILL pick up the MK4 on sale. For now I use the thermopop actually have about 4 of them around here LOL. Thermoworks is having an up to 60% off sale right now and the MK4 is the first thing I checked. Yeah I have had several cheap instant reads in the past and after awhile they don't cut it. I have a ThermoPro for use in the oven I don't trust it for much more than that. Will replace it with either the dot or more likely the ChefAlarm. For grilling I have the Thermoworks Smoke with WiFi gateway. With the ATC on the WSM it has 3 built in meat probes already plus pit probe so covered there. But I always look for an excuse to get some more jelly belly beans

Stopped at Costco on the way home to get some proteins. They had in the typical Costco fashion a huge jar of Jelly Belly beans sitting on an endcap. It might have followed me home :anonymous:

lonestar tick would be the end of me. I love me some beef.

Costco/Sam Club: You will spend no less that $100, typical run is $200+. Never go Hungry, cause it will be a $500 bill and i'll end up with Diabeetus!

Worst nightmare!!! I do some work with deer at various times throughout the year as well. With my luck, i’m sure i’ll end up getting bit by one.

If I could stay away from those damn Jelly Belly beans then diabetes would never enter the equation LOL. But we all have our weakness.

Right now Coscto here has a sale on a lot of proteins left over from New Years. Red Crab, previously frozen no thanks. Like King Crab better and most all of it is frozen, why would you purchase it thawed? It is normally flash frozen no matter where it is delivered. Oh wait it is already cooked. Not a deal.

    Scallops previously frozen. Ugh.

Rack of ribs with $10 off package at checkout. Now your talking my language. Picked up a small rack that will give 2 really decent Ribeyes when cut in half. And of course I picked up some capsteaks. And maybe a few other things..

Could kept it at under $200.57 if I wouldn't have gotten those damn Jelly Belly beans LOL. They are still sitting in the truck for a reason.

Great choice for a cut of meat to smoke for Jerky. Although London Broil is actually a method of cooking, not a cut of meat. Most often it is top sirloin. Which is lean and makes great jerky for a muscle meat.

Hmm sounds like the Pacific Rim, and a deliver boy... just saying.

Mine is no longer available they have upgraded it. But has been flawless. Number 1 buyers of it has been owners of the BGE. You know those Ceramic things that WILL crack eventually but supposedly hold temperature no matter what ambient temperature is. I don't worry about that so much with the WSM, even in teens below zero.

I can hardly walk outside here without getting a tick on me. But nothing like back East. All my dogs have had Lymes by the time they turned 1.

If going outside when it is above 30° I spray all my clothes with Permethrin.

One of my nephews is the Bayer rep for selling Seresto collars for dogs in NY and Pa to Vets. Put one on my Toller this last Spring that he sent to me. First time I have ever not had a tick on one of my dogs during the warmer months. Ever.

I was aware of Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted fever but not this atrocity. My fear of ticks has just been multipliesd. There have been days in which I have walked outside and killed a handful of ticks. Might be time to get those loud ugly African birds that kill ticks.

Opossums and some songbirds also eat a lot of ticks.

Playing with the new Akorn Jr... seasoning the grates and getting used to the heat management. I had both vents wide open, it got to 500 quick. I have them both about 25 percent and it hasn't yet dropped much. I am trying to be patient here...a4cfe94b-a79c-4e7d-938c-b117d080786e.jpg

I havent used an acorn, but i have found with my smokers that once it gets that hot, it wont go back down, or it will take a long time. There is a lot of coal going to get it that hot.

Yeah that's what I figured. I have the vents about 95 percent shut now and it's still hot as hell. I put way too much charcoal in there, too. Hey, it was a good excuse to cook breakfast ;)
