Just for safety's sake a forward facing 'dash cam' is a must-have.

Would definatly be interested in seeing everything you do to your vehicle to prep! I would love to be able to do what you are planning on doing. You've been around but it doesnt hurt to get in contact with your local embassy and let them know when you plan on entering, leaving, and maybe a phone call here and there to keep you on someones radar. Us passport is the second strongest right behind British.

I'm thinking you'll need a really tall snorkel. Those oceans have deep spots. Seriously though, what does it cost to put a truck on a ship for a trip like this? I'm retired too. You're giving me ideas.

Typically it runs a couple grand or so, plus a few months to get it across the pond, out of the container and through customs.

I’m a little tech-challenged being 58 YO regarding how to show our route. We’re planning to leave April 2020 after multiple weeks of testing in the US this summer. We will ship it in a container to Rotterdam and then spend five months in eastern and western Europe waiting for winter to go to Morocco. Our plan is to go down the west coast of Africa and then proceed up the East Coast to Egypt and Israel. taking about a year. We will then ship it to Turkey. After that trip becomes models a bit muddled, we will have to cross Kazakhstantan, Russia into Mongolia. China will be a challenge as they restrict private vehicles. After that will proceed through India working our way down to Thailand and finally into Australia.

@YOTA 4X4, thanks for the input. I have considered a Fuso but many bridges have a 5 ton weight limit otherwise you have to drive through the river, yikes. My wife wants an inside toilet and shower. I can’t blame her. Having to get and go the bathroom after having a hippo walk around your tent, a hyena howl 100’ away, and meeting an elephant at the campground bathroom all at night is freaking scary.

Need to find a bigger sliding rear window so I can get into the truck directly from the camper incase the locals or animals become restless. Also need 360 degree floodlights around the truck when getting out at night

Wow! Maybe that is why I have not been able to find anything on the Internet about a Tacoma going around the world. Great advice, thank you! Never have done video but we do have a decent camera, Sony a6500 that shoots 4K video and have shot some amazing IMHO still photos. Will you with just one.

Forward facing camera is another good idea.

    Like, so many.
Y’all should check out The Road Chose Me on Instagram and YT. He’s outfitted Jeep Wrangler and has been driving around Africa for a year or so posting his adventures. Sounds similar to what TS is planning.

Fair warning, I slung couple of modular refineries together near the Russia/Kazakhstan/Mongolia border in Kosh-Agach. Petrol is virtually non existent there. That was 7 years ago, but I wouldn't drive a petrol truck in that region for a million dollars

definitely not able to support the weight, do not do it. I had an extra two AAL's in mine as per Arb's instructions and they failed with a deked storage system an da rear bumper with dual swing outs (the bumper is only 150lbs over the stock bumper weight). So 450 say with the decked load out. and they were already inverting.

I have! His website and truck are both awesome but is too small for the two of us. It doesn't meet my wife's requirements of having a inside toilet and shower. He's given us great ideas

I major in electrical engineering in college and am a master tech in automotive repair right now. i couldn't help but to agree. Yes, i can do outstanding work but no body willing to pay for my time that I invested in the work. I am a pretty fast worker, however people want even faster and cheaper. Therefore, sometimes(more like most of the time) I will just have to compromise on quality, but i still take great pride of my work i will make sure it is trouble free. But it might not look as organize and professional as I really wanted it to be.

The closer you keep the truck to stock, the more reliable it will be, and the easier it will be to repair and source parts for. It will also be more enjoyable to drive. A lightweight camper, Maxxtraxx, tow straps and a come-along, some good smallish tires, extra gas. I’d skip the armour, bumpers, sliders, awnings, and other “overland” unnecessaries.
