we just got a Cx5 earlier this year so it all depends on when she wants to get a 4runner. The sequoias are huge -gigity- but she seems to like the 4runners better

Homelink autodim mirror. Found it in a Lexus at junkyard. I finally felt like wiring it in.
Has compass too but it's invisible when off.

    1. I had to clear the memory in mirror first to get it to take. For this mirror, held all 3 homelink buttons for about 45 seconds for light to blink then go out. If you already have a button programmed you want to keep, don't do this. Not sure on how to clear single button memory.

    2. Put the opener in learning mode. Mine has a button up on the motor that says "learn" and an indicator light near button comes on to confirm.

    3. Quickly, before learning mode times out, go to mirror. Press a homelink button and hold for about 2 seconds. Release, then press/hold another 2 seconds and release.

    4. Repeat step 2 and 3 a few times.

As far as wiring into the 4R, my SR5 had a harness in pillar near dash speaker that feeds to overhead box. The harness half from dash upward had some empty holes but the half that goes into dash had feed. I made a pin to fit into empty spot on harness to get switched 12V and fed wire up beside existing bundle. Just tapped ground at overhead near plug.

In the white harness at bottom of pillar, blue wire at corner pin is 12V. Only has pwr when key is "on", not at ACC. If your model already uses that pin/wire, just tap into wire. If it's open, you just need to put a male pin in harness or tap wire below harness. I pulled a pin and few inches of wire from the main plug on a 2nd gen Taco taillight i had around. It's a perfect fit into 4R harness (tear rubber seal off back of pin before plugging into 4R harness).

Ground wire is white with black stripe. I tapped it right at the plug at overhead so that i was only routing 1 wire up the pillar.

Edit: some garage motors might have different method. This is just home mine worked to program for rolling codes.

Day trip to Nashville and found some trails on the way home.

Slammed the hitch into the ground going through a ditch. Kids sure noticed that. :anonymous:But somehow didn't crush the exhaust tip.

Front bumper scrubbed when a rut slid us sideways to a deeper spot. We'll find out if i have new scratches once i wash it.

And got stuck trying to climb a muddy hill. Heard someone squeal "i think i can" from the back seat just before we stopped going forward.:rofl:Backing down that hill bordered on being sketchy AF briefly because it was a cambered hill with slick clay shit. There was no turning or stopping once we started down. Somehow slid out of the ruts and stopped a full truck width off beside the trail in the same ditch i had just gouged the hitch on. Luckily no trees were right there.

    All fun though.
Kids had been whining about being in the car so much up until we got off the pavement. Then even when it got dark, they wanted to keep going in the woods.

Only took 1 pic all day and wasn't even on the trail.

The bracket i made for mounting a CB antenna last september... I finally installed it. The antenna cable is just laying in the cargo space for now but at least it's inside the truck.

DIY side skirts on my daily driver.
Spent $10 total at bargain store for garage door insulation and outdoor carpet tape.
Even if it doesn't last long, at least now I've confirmed i like the look enough to buy the real thing eventually.

I will have seats. Only problem is I go slow and try to bypass the more difficult areas...

A 285/70-17 does fit in oem spare location on the 4R but nothing bigger than that. It's against the back of my hitch and not far from moving parts at axle.

And that tire (1 of them only) will fit in the trunk of a FRS...

...if you remove a headrest, slide seat fully forward, and recline it to slide the tire over the seat into the trunk from the front.

Weight reduction that also made the FRS seem a bit louder...

    From last week's camping trip.

Gear plus 6 people really had the back of 4R squatting. My headlights were blinding people because of it making them point too high.

I need a small trailer instead of the hitch tray if I'm going to be taking the whole family out for 3+ days at a time.

And, main part of the DIY roofrack is on.
Brackets are zinc plated steel. Crossbars are aluminum (clear anodized). Used UHMWPE tape at contact points to prevent galvanic corrosion. (likely way overkill, no risk, but i already had the tape anyway)

Need to get the slot nuts that match this channel and decide if i really want to fab some quick-attach lockable brackets to let me swap out box mounts, kayak mounts, etc.

Note the dual purpose cargo tie + super duper overlander grade air disruption noise reducer.
(I have a piece of aluminum plate to make a real air deflector eventually.)
