Untruthful, all they want is a Vin number, it's not like your saying it's your vehicle.

I don't think many people realized the price of the OEM TRD Pro grill dropped to <$200 in 2018. Got mine for $201.45 shipped.

It dropped on the 18 and 19 but the 16 and 17 are higher for some reason.

I gave up after 6 months at my dealership. Was told that the distributor won't release until they have a certain number in stock.
I did get the black bezel and went that route-actually looks really clean.

I seem to recall at one point they were trying to request a photo of a damaged grille as part of the deal, or a police / accident report.

When I bought my 2013 I wanted the TRD Baja wheels (the gunmetal beadlocks) and no dealer would sell them. I tried bribing a parts guy with $100 and he said he simply couldn't get a set. Even through 2014 until 2015 Toyota was restricting them to the point it was impossible to order more than 1 at a time.

When I got my grille it was right before the original stop sale, which I think was in place because they sold out the entire inventory of them at the time, and a lot were showing up damaged. I paid through the teeth for mine and would still do it again a heartbeat.

    Best of luck OP.

Don't know why, it's all one piece. That's the way mine came.

I just walked into my dealer and bought one. They had it in stock. They didn’t even ask what trim level I drove. I just asked from the Pro Grille for a 2016-2017 Tacoma, no TSS. Who’s requiring a VIN number? That’s silly.

My local dealer sends someone out to my truck with his phone to take a picture of the VIN for their files. They said Toyota forbids them to sell a part that wasn't available or optional on the model. They don't want people like me buying an offroad and upgrading it to a Pro. Or Sport to an offroad or whatever. So fine, I get the same thing on ebay at a cheaper price. They don't ask for a VIN. Everything I've gotten so far was as advertised and was OEM. Grill, Rigid fog lights, etc. Just be sure it's a reputable seller.
It doesn't make sense for Toyota to do this. They probably charge more for ordered add-ons than if it was put on at the factory.

Any suggestions on where to buy one online? Or do I need to check with the dealership in order to purchase one?

It’d be funny if parts ordered via the vin came up on carfax. And then someone’s wondering why one trdpro has had 200 OEM grills ordered for It

I bought mine from oempartsquick.com back in October but their website shows the part is discontinued now. I'd keep looking around other dealers online.
