AE55E6E9-F120-4073-ACD9-91B63A53EB0C.jpg Love my Alpine OP, but honestly a little embarrassed that I did not know gauges were available. Can you instruct me on how to hook up? Also my backup camera is still going through my rear view mirror. I have a 2011 dclb but would also like to see it pop up on the screen. I do have a unit hooked up for steering wheel controls but it is not the idatalink

    Thanks

For the gauges you need that Maestro and the vehicle-specific harness, mine was the TOY01. You can fill our their thing here: http://maestro.idatalink.com/maestro/ but I did it quickly for the 2011 and it said the same thing.

You get the Maestro and then you have to flash it with your vehicle's setup firmware (you'll get a link to that when you fill out that form on the site above). You have to use a Windows computer for that (I'm on a Mac so I had to run a virtual machine copy of Windows to get it working).

I was using the Axxess for steering wheel controls and cut off my old plug to hook it up so I just left that in there and didn't use Maestro for the steering wheel. The Maestro wiring harness is kind of confusing because it seems to come with a lot of extra plugs and extensions that I didn't end up using... I assume they're for other Toyotas with different options? To get gauges you really just need to make sure you hook up the ODBII plug under the steering wheel.

You can splice into the rearview camera—here's a thread where someone figured out where to do that: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/oem-camera-connection-below-dash.30889/ The Maestro's camera hookup has four wires (video +, video -, 5V power and ground) and I found out that if you unplug the harness shown in that thread you can plug in all 4 wires to the loose end of the plug and everything works. You lose video in the rearview mirror though (when you start backing up it'll turn blue for a second, then shut off). In the thread the author kept both the rearview and headunit camera but the quality of both got a little fuzzy. The nice thing about hooking it up to only the Maestro is that you can turn it on whenever you want, not just when the transmission shifts to reverse.

Let me know if that helps!

I had visited this thread earlier today and was just doing a search on TW for an answer to the same exact question about the backup camera from the rearview mirror to the head unit @Teamnoble11 asked here.

Thanks for the link to the other thread, @Cannikin. I'll check it out.

The wireless CarPlay is interesting that would be awesome. Someone needs to make a Bluetooth dongle to hook up the the usb port for CarPlay. For us guys on here who are on a tight budget can have the same tech

What do you think of the Pioneer 6400NEX? Dual cam, dual A/V and HDMI not really needed unless you want to hook up an Apple TV to stream from your iPhone or IPad. But wireless CarPlay, HD Radio, Nav, Maestro-RR compatible, and then you can get the wireless charger built specifically for the Tacoma that works with any device that has wireless charging. $1000 for unit, Maestro and charger and harness.

wireless Apple CarPlay, Waze and Google maps apps would be ideal. I've been thinking about upgrading the stock head unit as well.

Love this head unit! Does it also have the ability to check the fuel efficiency?

I put the XAV-AX5000 in my E46 M3 because it has a larger screen and no CD player. No point in having a CD player in that car, it'd skip so much lol. But I didn't realize how much i would miss not having a volume knob to rotate.

Because my OEM in my 2007 still works flawlessly and I much rather put my money on better toys than on this. Besides, I have 3 radios going for my amateur radio adventures and my hearing is not what it used to be when I was dumb and stupid. Now, if you want to give me one, I'll take it.

I don't need one now, but I'll get something in the future to replace my entune navigation unit. The main reason why, above all else, is because both Apple (Carplay) and Android (Android Auto) navigation is so much better and easier to use than any vehicles stock units. I don't think there is any other selling point needed than that.

    I get your point @scootter82

I am heavily invested in Apple products besides their stock. Maybe Toyota will add their own version one of these days...

The other thing I don't see on the iLX-107 is wireless android screen mirroring. With the AVIX 8400 NEX you can wirelessly mirror your android phone onto the radio so you can watch youtube or whatever on deck.

I installed a Pioneer AVH2300, it’s plug in CarPlay. But it’s fine for me
I love it. I installed a PAC system and kept my steering wheel controls. So it’s super easy. I chose this model because it has a CD/DVD/MP3 player because you never know ;)

    But was only like $300

It does! It has both "instantaneous" MPG and Average (which you can reset from the head unit).

Any radios in the truck? I've got an Icom ID-5100A, fits perfect in the little sunglasses pocket below the climate controls! Here's my install with photos: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...callsign-thread.260643/page-144#post-15109720

I’m wondering if the radio, the Maestro or the cars computer actually calculates the mpg and average mpg. You do have to set the fuel tank size on the radio/maestro.

I'm guessing the MPG is coming from the OBDII. There's a gauge for range left in the tank so I'm thinking it compares percentage of fuel left from OBDII and multiply that by the tank size to figure out how many gallons are left and then how much range you have left. But I'm guessing the average is calculated by the Maestro since you can reset it from there?
