@Suprajim54 so it’s been too damn cold for me to deal with the heat not working and I want to make sure I’m messing with the right thing.

I can push the lever up but it doesn’t stay (I have the air on at 83 degrees car is not on because I’m not really messing with it right now) I’ve read people zip tying something and want to make sure that’s what they’re talking about

You're looking at the correct part. Note that it's vacuum actuated, so it will only work with the car running. If you find that the VSV moves while the car is on, then your issue is elsewhere. You can either zip tie that lever or put a union between the two hoses bypassing the valve.

Alright well I went out and tried and was able to move the lever up but it wouldn’t hold. So my issue is elsewhere? What would happen if I were to zip tie the lever up?

No, it sounds like the VSV isn't working. It should stay in the open position so that the coolant can run through the heater core instead of rerouted back to the engine. If you zip tie the lever up, it should just keep it routed through the heater core, so you'll always have heat even if you turn it down to 65. May not be an issue unless a heat wave suddenly hits Georgia. You could always just cut the zip tie to close it off again.

Gotcha I think I read your post wrong. Well cool I’ll grab some zip ties and have it in the open position. Then when it starts getting warm again I’ll cut the zip tie out

Well I got the lever to come up and the air felt a little warmer or it could just be I was super cold. I’ll update it tomorrow since I actually be driving it. Just hope the heater core isn’t bad as I’ve heard it’s a PITA

You won't know for sure until the car is up to normal operating temp. If the lever is staying in the open position now, then I think you've probably solved the issue.

Well thanks for the link! That helped a ton, I’m sure when it gets warm outside I’d swap them back Id assume

I have heat! Oh it's so glorious with it being sub freezing temps. Thanks a ton @Suprajim54 ! If I'm ever in Texas I owe you a beer or two haha

Great to hear! At least you know what the issue is and a workaround fix. I'll try to look through my parts stash and see if I have a working valve. The last time I replaced mine, the plastic pipes were cracked, but the switching unit still worked. Might be able to swap those parts over from yours.

Yeah I found one on eBay for like $95 but I'll just keep swapping the hoses each time the seasons change for now until it doesn't work or something better comes along. Now onto other things like getting the top to stop leaking haha

Someone on one of the Facebook groups was selling a set of brand new in the bag targa seals. Not cheap but they may be discontinued from Toyota.

Saw that ha. I think since it's cold the seals just shrunk a bit because it was fine until about November really. And it's not a bad leak just drips down into the drip rail thing

On my old car, it always leaked at the front corner where the top meets the window. First time I went through a drive thru car wash I got sprayed in the face with water, lol

Mine leaks there and then at the rear all on the driver side. But I have a car cover that I use for now when it rains. May try and put a big glob of Vaseline in the corners
