I'm thinking about trading my Taco for a 4Runner. The dealer has a couple leftover 2018's, a SR5 and a TRD OR. Is there any real downfall to having the OR for mostly street use vs. a SR5?

Nope. You will just have better resale and goodies waiting to be used if you need them

Edit: And to add. The OR will probably come with all terrain tires vs street tires.

This one has the dark grey TRD wheels with street tires. I'm not well-versed in 4runners so I don't know if the OR suspension is different? $4k off msrp.

It depends, some 4Runner OR comes with the Bridgestone HT aka All Season or Dunlop AT tires It just depends on which region or dealers. I've seen some dealers has Dunlop and others have the Bridgestones in the same area I live in.... yeah I don't get it either.

The suspension is the same among the SR5 and OR unless you have KDSS which you also get bigger sway bars front and back. I have the KDSS in my '18 OR Premium and it's worth every penny on and off road

Here's mine BTW with Kings :)

I just traded my Taco in on a SR5P. I would’ve preferred the OR, but we need the third row for occasional use. No regrets, we love it.

If you prefer the OR though, get one, mall crawler or not!

@ Lord Helmet The SR5 I am considering has Dunlop Grandtreks, and the OR has Bridgestone Dueler HT. About $3000 difference between the two vehicles the way they are packaged, which for me is hard to justify to gain crawl control, terrain select and a rear locker. Stuff I will probably never use. I drove a 4x2 Prerunner for 8 years and never got stuck, so...

I may have just talked myself into the SR5. I can spend some of the $ savings on some mods that make more sense for me. Like better looking wheels. lol

Interesting. I have the Duelers on my SR5P. I'll be getting wheels/tires eventually for mine. For the light off roading I'll do, that's all I'll need.

Yeah well when I went to the dealer today to lay eyes on the SR5, at some point (after they posted online photos) they swapped OR wheels with Bridgestones onto the SR5 and wanted $1865 more than the listed price for the "upgrade." Yeah right!! lmao I said you can leave those wheels on if you want, or put on the original 6-spokes back on, IDGAF, but I'm not paying for the 7 spokes no way no how! Not when you can buy the TRD wheels for what, $179 each? Jeez I hate dealers sometimes.

@hordboy If you're happy with a SR5 then by all means get that  All 4Runners are capable vehicles in stock form, 4X4 or not

The SR5 I'm considering is 4x4 so it will handle anything an Ohio winter can throw at it. Typical offroad driving I've encountered while hiking out west was handled by a Jeep Cherokee. I don't intend to ever go rock crawling, so the SR5 will be fine. Yeah the wheel swap thing had me wondering. Someone else was coming to look at the vehicle so I imagine they were going to try to shaft them somehow. Pretty disgusting.

This question is why I opted for a TRD Sport Tacoma instead of the Off-Road. I don't really intend on going off road for anything other than maybe driving into the back yard to throw stuff in the back, so the floatier suspension of the Off-Road would be pointless. My wife and I got an '18 4Runner SR5 back in June of 2018 and she loves it. Outside of the minor bump in resale value and "status", there really isn't a point in my eyes to get an Off-Road if you really don't think you'll ever use the features that it has.

But then again, there is that mindset where it's better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it...

We got the off road because I wanted the hood scope and manual transfer case. Will my wife ever use the locker? Most likely never...and to be real honest 4wheel drive isn’t necessary. :lalala:Morale of my story get whatever your most happy with for whatever reason. If we only bought what we needed most of us could get by with a RAV4 or Outback:crapstorm:
