I did not, but you can, would just have put the bolt as far up as possible so that the lid closes though. or could possibly cut some of the lid as well?

Anybody have ideas on adding a lock to the ammo cans?

That stud is a lot cleaner way to install a lock than the way we used to do it. Cut a slot in the latch (notch either side of the round hole), mount an eye bolt through the can itself. Either works though.

I'd use some sort of rubber bumpers instead of carriage bolts as your stabilizers so that they don't tear up the plastic bed from vibrating.

ARB Bumper, SOS sliders, SOS rear bumper, SOS skid plate. OME Lift. Some other stuff.
7.62mm ammo cans are not as wide if anyone is looking to do this with a smaller type ammo can. Spray painting over the stenciling is a must in my opinion.

Do the 1/2” spring nuts fit anywhere along the bed rails then twist into place? Or do you need to slide them in through the end of the rails?

Harbor Freight has the 50 cal cans - new from a China vendor I'm sure. Last fall they had them down to $10 with one of their flyers. I've got a couple and they seem to be the same construction as the surplus boxes.

My dad used to put together "roadside supply" kits in the real surplus fat 50 boxes - and put them in all of the family vehicles. They were full of small tools and racer tape, bailing wire, bandaids and so on. I didn't realize how many of them he had built until my brother-in-law showed me his, and told me dad had given at least one to all of the grandkids. Heavy, they feel like he packed them wth cement.

This is key, I had ammo cans on my bedrails with no bottom support. Even with washers, the cans themselves started to tear from bouncing up and down so many times. Took them off and never replaced them so just offering some long term advice.

Thank you for posting the parts. I was able to order from Lowes, pick up and install. Great mod for ratchet straps etc...

Pretty sure you can Legally buy ammo cans anywhere, including California.

Don’t think the cops can pull you over for carrying something legal secured to your bed.

RCI engine & transmission skid plates with catalytic converter guards; grab handle phone mount mod.
I'm thinking about mounting a couple of THESE in the spaces ahead of the wheel wells of my truck.
