Nice entry level that won't break the bank and has some options with it is the Nikon D5xxx series. Not big camera's and easy to carry around with you if your into that. Can use all the Nikon lenses except the one's without the focus motors in the lenses (Unless you want to manually focus). If you'd like a lot of options that you won't really desire more look into a used D7xxx series. You have a lot of room to grow with the D7xxx series. 7xxx series also has a focus motor in the camera body so you can use all the lenses and save some monies on the higher end lenses buying them without focus motors. My first digital was a D7000 but, I've used a D3300, D5000, D5300, D40. Out of those they all got the job done for what I was doing at the time. In the end I liked the D7000 best because there were no limitations as to what was possible with it. May just me being picky but I don't like a camera that doesn't have separate wheels for aperture and shutter speed. It's such a pain in the ass to run manual and have to press a button to shift the wheels to the other. Anyway without getting too technical if you can find a D7xxx series in your budget grab it up and never think about upgrading unless you're going to a full frame body. Put your money into nice glass to go in front of it.

Thanks. I've had a D5300 in mind for a while, but havent acted on it yet.

My Dad got a used 7xxx series a while back on craigslist. Turns out the guy was a Nat Geo photographer! His camera case outer pouches was full of sand from far away lands, and had a leaf stuck in the lining from the Amazon. Dad went out and bought a new case because the old one had such a cool story to it.

I sold my D7000 with the 18-105, 55-300, case and a battery grip for $800. If you can get one for around that price I'd highly recommend getting it over the D5xxx series. There's just so much more you can do with them over the lower series. They have come way down in price too.

@RearViewMirror did have I believe a D7200 with lenses and a bag for sale. He may still have it. Throw him a pm and see. I can assure you it was well taken care of.

What Murph said. I got a D7200 kit for 800 off of offerup. New, the same kit runs for a bit over $1k. But you can find just the body refurbed sold by Nikon on Amazon for sub $700.

I really like my D7200. I got it as an upgrade from a D40. Mostly because it shot video as well. And it has WiFi

I do still have it. I just haven't pursued selling it too much. It's still for sale and reasonable offers are still accepted.

    Here is the listing

I'm not sure what I'll move to next. Been wanting a D850 but now they have the Z7 out too. Not sure I'm quite ready to replace all my glass or use an adapter for the Z7 though. 4k at 120 fps on the D850 would be sweet though.

I'm not familiar with the mirrorless enough to know but does the aperture differ with them vs DSLR's? I notice the 24-70 is a F/4 instead of a F/2.8 in that line.

Z line is also a smaller camera. One plus to going with my D800 was the larger body that fit my hands better. Plus I really love this camera.

Thanks. I'm torn about selling it right now. I do much more videography than photography. I have only used the DSLR a few times this last year and most of that time was when we went to DC on vacation. I hate to get rid of it but I also hate for it to sit around for months at a time in the bag not being used.

Had I not bought a d7200 last year I would be buying this now. @Gunshot-6A if you can swing the cash and are wanting to get a camera id definitely put an offer in on this
