2006 Tacoma ignition coil problem-condensation in oil cap

Has anyone had any trouble with coil packs ? i have changed #3 coil twice in less than a year. I also have a condensation problem , white build up under oil cap only in winter. Im not running hot , smoking or losing coolant. Any Ideas ? My Tacoma is a 06 with 197,000 miles on it. Im wondering if its time to trade in. thanks

 

I'm curious if you have changed you spark plugs recently. If so what did you install? Did you use Toyota coil packs or aftermarket?

 

People will tell you the white deposits are the result of a lot of short trips - engine not getting fully warmed up. It's my belief that in addition to this, winter does not help. I believe it's damp in Memphis year round for the most part. Correct me on this if I am wrong.

 

Can't help you with the coil packs. My 2006 2.7 has 149,000 miles and all coils are original units. Put in new

The white film under the oil cap is most likely what Lester said. Once or twice a month, be sure the engine gets to full operating temperature AND STAYS THERE for at least 20 minutes. Take the long way to the store. Go for a scenic drive. Just run it for a longer period so it gets good and hot. Highway cruising is best, IMO.

I get an off-white goop under my oil cap, my daily drive is about a mile and my truck doesn't get up to temp. Experienced these a lot in past cars too. Very normal, just signs of not getting the engine up to temp for long enough on a regular basis.

Use only OEM coil packs if you want longevity, though you will pay for that luxury. Aftermarket doesn't have a good track record, no matter how tempting the price/warranty is.
