New Hampshire and Salting the Roads

The dealer is supposedly sending me pics of the underside. Lets see how good his paint job is on the frame.

 

If it is a NH truck then it likely is part of the frame replacement TSB. Just make sure the right steps were taken for it to qualify.

 

Considering I live down the street from a massive salt pile that is supplied by ocean freighters - yes we use a lot of salt on the roads up here.

While I find a "rust free" NH truck to be highly suspect - it's not impossible. My buddy's parents have a 2000 Dodge pickup that's only really used during the summertime as they live down in FL during the winter. Sure it's got some rust but not the usual stuff you would see on an 18 y/o truck.

Maybe the previous owner had the frame rustproofed every year - who knows.

 

Right, could have been fluid filmed or washed religiously. Neither were done with my truck above!!

 

my bet is its got a hole in the frame, my first gen met the same fate, check above the shock mounts in the rear and shackle mounts to the frame. They always go. only had it for 9 months

 

Pass. They use calcium chloride up here(used for brine) as well as salt.

Keep looking.
There are tons of clean trucks down there (Corpus is home). Just be mindful of beach sand... That salty sand can be just as bad as road salt here if it isnt kept clean/washed afted each beach run.

 

I know I am late to the party (maybe too late) but just my 2 cents...
1. A truck from the northeast is very likely to have rust/damaged frame - even if it was replaced.
2. It males no sense to me that someone from Texas would buy a truck from New Hampshire. Personally, the last truck i bought (before my current taco) was a 1997 F250CC4x4w/7.3 which I bought from a guy in Texas. Frame was spotless. Anytime I brought it in for service the guys would scratch their heads because they couldn't believe how clean it was underneath. The point is - northeasterners buy trucks from Texas - not the other way around (unless it is really something special).
3. I will be up in Portsmouth NH over the next week or so and can take a look at it if you want.

 

Youre not too late. I passed on it. Didnt want to take the chance. Also read a lot of shitty reviews about the dealer that had it listed. For some reason they raised the price of it $2k and i called them out on it and havent received a response from them. They wouldnt take pics of the undercarriage for me either.

The truck is currently in Houston and was purchased from an auto auction. The carfax said it spent its whole life in NH. Im glad i looked that up because it could have been bad. Someone is going to buy it and have no idea.

I found two other 1st gens that I am picking up on Friday. One is rolled and the other is in great shape. Not a 4-banger but both are v6 5-speeds.

here is what i picked up over the weekend. Two 2000 Tacomas 3.4l, 5-speed in both. No rust.

 

I’d pass on it. The problem with trucks is they’re all open underneath and salt goes everywhere. On unibody vehicles, most everything is fairly sealed up.

 

If I'm traveling a long distance on salt covered roads, especially if its wet out and shit is spraying like crazy. When I get home I connect my pressure washer to my hot water heater and blast the stuff off. The car wash is 10 miles away and I'd be just getting more salt on it.. So if you want to bomb through 50 gallons of your hot water do it, it works friggen amazing. Just my .02
