Did about a 4 mile hike with the dogs this morning through the local Audubon Society property . Hopefully the weather people are wrong about the storm coming . Otherwise too much snow without snow shoes to hike in the trails through the woods .

Obviously there are a few more steps. Once the radiator is drained, I leave the drain-cock open and chase it with a gallon of distilled water to help clean it out.

I also elevate the front end. This helps to purge the air as it always wants to rise to the highest point. Pour the coolant in very slowly and most of the air will purge out as you're filling. People usually just pour it in quickly. That traps more air.

Let it idle with the radiator cap OFF and heat temp knob fully on. This will help to ensure the system is fully circulating once the thermostat opens.

Idle it (with the rad cap off) until the temp gauge is in it's normal position....about 30 minutes. Any remaining air will purge itself out...especially if you've elevated the front end. Top off the radiator if the level has dropped. Fill the overflow.

You're done.

Add coolant to the overflow over the next couple of days if needed. Check the overflow level with a cold engine

Start with a cold engine when you begin this process

Another little thing I did today. I'm getting ready to start a series of drain and fills with the transmission.

So I bought an OBDII male connector... $6.50 from Amazon. I tied pins #4 and #13 together. No more fanagiling with a jumper wire. Just plug and play. Will make entering temp check mode a breeze.



Marked the pins with a green Sharpie .



Made a permanent jumper.







Plug it in when I need it.
