that looks sweet but i cant imagine aluminum sheetmetal added any rigidity? i feel like it would have to wrap around the top of the tailgate to do anything? mine is pretty fucked, but im hoping i can get a cap on the top to hold it solid.

A sheet metal plate isn't going to do shit to help reinforce that... I say buy the mobtown or relentless plate/cap combo (can't remember which one makes it) and maybe.. Just maybe it'll fit over the deformed metal. I have sledge hammered mine and it hasn't deflected at all.

As for hardware, drilled out the shit plastic inserts and toss a rivnut in there.

Your right the top of the tailgate is where the rigidity is.. A tail gate skin won’t suit you none with the damage you have already. Tho my tailgate camp table top is 3/16 and plenty strong to stand on or load stuff in and out it’s far from sheet metal. I’d consider sheet metal like flashing for a roof. If 3/16 was too thin, could always go 1/4”. I went aluminum over steel to reduce weight and not deal with any rusting, but was also just looking for another table top surface and not a reinforcment. But again doesn’t help the damage and prob flex you have in you tailgate. I don’t know if mobtown has a one piece tailgate skin and top plate reinforcement but I know relentless does.

Why not source a new tailgate as well? It might be that the relentless tailgate cap/skin might not fit over that deformed section.
