I just took a trip to the Grand Canyon. Had some snow with 4hi engaged, but still got just shy of 19 mpg with just a little over 500 miles. I was pleasantly surprised considering my wheels, tires, and lift.

    I just did a 447km trip. Used 48.726 litres.
Basically 278 miles and used 12.89 gallons of gas. Average speed was about 50-55mph (small highways). No super highways like in North America. Highest speed limit here is 100KMH (63MPH). Over half of my trip was on steep and winding hills, and lots of strong cross winds. Plus having to hammer it to pass slow moving semi's. I worked out my mileage by hand as 21.55 U.S. MPG
But I usually average between 16 - 17 mpg with my driving around the area and in town.

I bought a used 2006 4L 4WD / Automatic (Gen 2). 70k miles. I use the Fuelly app to track mileage. I use the truck as my daily driver and get pretty consistent readings over time for 80% city driving.

Initial results after purchase: 14 MPG
Changed spark-plugs (to Iridium), Oil Change, Air Filter Change, Cleaned Mass Air Flow Sensor: Improved to 16 MPG

Stuck there for some time until I got a P0430 Code. This led me to look at the Emissions system. From there, I tried a 3L bottle of Cataclean and added a Anti-Fouler to the left side O2 sensor down stream of the Catalytic converter. See post on this thread for details: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...tem-efficiency-below-threshold-bank-2.391165/

I was happily surprised to see that my mileage has improved to 18MPG. I used regular gas in VA 10% Ethanol (87 Octane) from well known gas stations throughout these tests: Exxon, Shell etc. I tried Costco gas once and that was terrible for MPG (setback to 14MPG and generated the P0430 Code int he first place). Although, I am thankful because it tipped me off that the Cat was on the edge.

    2008 X-Runner (4.0L, 6-speed MT): 18 City, 24 highway.

Now I do use a "light foot" to achieve those highway numbers. Actually I've seen 26mpg twice, and I only count 200+ mile driving segments.
