Unless its absolutely dumping snow up there you should be fine just showing them, but if it comes down good when your trying to get out of tahoe the pass is where they would make you put chains on.

Not bad, I've seen them for about that at Wally World but that's usually for smaller tire sizes. I'll have to go check.

True, think I'm going to wait until a few days before our trip and see what conditions are like. Been told that they usually get hit pretty hard in January so there should still be a lot of snow around.

    oh gross,

I’ve never felt the need to run chains on the highway, and I don’t feel like cables would be very helpful in a situation you really need chains

I only got them because you sometimes have to show them at the checkpoints out here, but 4x4's never have to put them on. At least I've never had to. But if we actually do end up needing them in Tahoe I want to make sure they don't suck too bad.

Believe me I thought about it....but I probably shouldn't go breaking something when I'm on a trip with the wife and 8 hours from home lol.

Some easy stuff you can run. Enter rubion from tahoma side. Couple small trails at out that way too. Or im sure @Tour991 can give you some good spots. He is a local after all

yeah we'd like to hit some of the easier spots just to kill time during the day, not looking to do anything technical. I've heard that most trails up there get shut down when the snow dumps over winter so we'll probably be kind of limited.

On the road leading To rubicon there is a small trail off to the side, little out and back thing. Nothing crazyz a few small rocks at the very top. But you can do it in 2wd in the dry. Idk about the snow
Also i dont think its gated at all
