I had a 2010 lariat. Bought it brand new. Terrible turning space. My f250 turned tighter than that did. Then the dealership put some LTs on it, horrible MPGs.

I personally don't like the 3.5 Ecoboost, but it's an okay engine I guess.

A lot of people, myself included, aren't considering the Tundra because of the atrocious MPG and how dated it is.

Just curious, why don’t you like the Ecoboost?

Small kids in a Tacoma are fine. Now that mine is getting bigger and the two i inherited we dont have enough room. Long trips suck because the kids are cramped. My next truck will be an F150 Supercrew for sure. The power is there and the mpgs are as good or better than my taco. I vote F150.

My girlfriend owns a 2008 f150 with the 5.4. I wont let her drive it over 20 miles from home cause it's a giant chunk of shit. It's had 2 transmission rebuilds, 2 alternators, a new radiator, a starter...however I had a 2014 f250, 130,000 miles not one problem other than I got tired of buying DEF

They sound awful, even worse with exhausts. Plus I don't want a twin turbo truck.

Well yeah. Nobody should buy the 5.4 3V F-150.

The first gen of that motor was really good. Nothing beats the 300 inline-6 though.

I have had 5.0L V8 and 3.5L ecoboost Ford company trucks. I loved them both and had no reliability issues with either. They both got better MPG than my former 2nd Gen Tacoma. They are like comfortable serene luxury cars on the freeway and have plenty of power for steep grades, even loaded up. My employer has dozens of F150s and has had such good luck with them that they don't buy GM or Dodge trucks anymore.

I was still a Toyota fascist when I got my first company F150 and it eventually won me over. The more I drove F150s the more I soured on my 2nd gen Tacoma. Now I think mid sized trucks are stupid unless you're building one up for off-roading, their only clear advantage over a full size.

I don't have to travel much for work anymore so I no longer have a company truck. My wife and I have been wanting something comfortable, spacious, quiet and fast for road trips. I've been shopping for a 2.7L ecoboost F150 and the incentives Ford offers are awesome. I can get an ecoboost 4X4 extended cab F150 with a towing package and locking rear diff for less than a new Tacoma TRD Off-Road. And the F150 extended cab is comparable in space to a Tacoma double cab. As long as we don't get a nasty surprise come tax time, I'll hopefully have a new F150 in the next couple months.

I have a 2014 Ford f150 Ecoboost.. I souped that up, tuned it and everything and it has 450 horsepower and 540 torque.. Very fast for a truck imo. Handles well. Never got stuck in it, never had any serious issues. Drifting was easy especially when it rained.. I could burn the tires easy. It was fun.. a bit big for my personal needs and especially going into any city or a place where parking is tight. Turning radius was alright. Was too big for many trails that I go to in new jersey. Handled the trails like a boss though from fording puddles to going about 50+ mph thru the pine barrens. I have videos on my Instagram @Amchuge
I currently own a 2018 Tacoma TRD pro. Doesn't handle as well. Isn't as fast. Turning radius is good.. it's small enough for comfortable daily driver in the city/ parking lots and such. Less leg room for passengers. Pops curbs and crawls way better then the Ford.. articulation is superior in the Tacoma. Tacoma is more bare bones which I like.
All depends on his needs. I've had fun in both.. one is better for off road (Tacoma) and one is better for street (f150).. I definitely miss the speed tho

My Buddy go a bad ecoboost in 2013... It was REALLY BAD... I don't mind that the engine was bad as all mfg's throw out a lemon every now and then. The problem was the way the dealer screwed him around and corporate did even less. He lost his ass on that truck and drove my old trusty rusty 2008 taco with 240k while his was in the shop. (5 times in 6 months). He is a tundra man now. I bought one in 2018 too. I guess they are "dated" but I like that they don't drop cylinders, and don't have super chargers. Yes they burn gas but all trucks do. Everyone bitches about mileage, then lifts the truck and puts giant tires and 500lb bumpers on.
I drove the f150, they are nice and definitely more refined than the Tundra. I just had to stick to what I know. That "dated" 5.7 engine and transmission enjoy a pretty bulletproof reputation.

Well, tax time was a pleasant surprise instead of a nasty one. I comparison shopped new 4Runners and Tundras thinking I was crazy for liking F150s. The 4Runners were expensive, slow and not that comfortable or spacious. The Tundras also felt a little slow and everyone knows their fuel economy is atrocious. I was also disappointed you can't get a locking rear diff in any Tundra, not even the TRD Pro. I got a Consumer Reports subscription to check reliability and surprise surprise, the Big 3 half-ton pickups from the last 10 years are very comparable to the Tacoma and Tundra. The F150's worst marks were for Sync3 operation, which I didn't care about because I wanted a work-truck trim level without a touchscreen.

Then I got price quotes from a couple dealerships on a new F150 XL 2.7L ecoboost, extended cab 4X4 with a rear diff lock, towing package and vinyl floors. Both quoted me around $36,000, were more than happy to order what I wanted and said it would arrive in about 5 weeks. One of them even offered to throw in a lifetime powertrain warranty if I ordered from them instead of their competitor. Much different than Toyota, where the attitude seems to be "This is what we have, take it or leave it."

I think that's what bugs me the most about modern Toyota. With the F150, there are 3 cabs, 3 bed lengths, multiple engines, multiple gear ratios, multiple towing packages, multiple payload packages and almost infinite interior options. You want 470 lb.ft. of torque and a regular cab? No problem. You want power heated seats and a touchscreen but you also want vinyl floors? No problem. You want the sport package with low-profile tires, but you also want the off-road package on the same truck? No problem (I saw more than one of those in person). I wanted a meat and potatoes truck with a towing package, rear diff lock, and basic interior. But I also wanted it to have a set of gonads because I've never owned a vehicle with a good power to weight ratio before. Also not a problem.

Anyhoo, rant over. I found a used F150 one configured exactly how I was about to order a new one, and the second I threw the dogs in the cab with muddy feet and they got hair everywhere, I was really glad I bought used instead of new. The acceleration is glorious, the ride is absurdly cushy, and so far it's getting the same MPG as my 4 cylinder regular cab Tacoma. Also, when I saw the cement grey color in person, it filled my heart with lust just like when I see a regular cab Tacoma.

Good looking truck. I love the look of the extended cabs over crews. But family obligations make me buy the crew cab.

I bet the new fords are great trucks, but I would never buy one just from terrible personal experience with both of my dad's f-250s and the Ford dealerships

One had a persistent transmission issue and the other was a straight up lemon that the dealer repeatedly lied about

The Toyotas lack a lot of comfort and tech in comparison and the dealerships do overcharge sometimes, but both my dad's tundra and my taco start every morning
The f250s were fast and did tow really well though:fistbump:

Thanks! If you have to regularly haul passengers, crew cabs are the way to go. The resale is higher on them as well.

Every make has its problem children and craptacular dealerships. My brother in law has had a bad 4Runner, a sorta-unreliable Honda Accord and a downright shitty Lexus ES350, so he's no longer a Toyota/Honda person. But his current Mercedes AMG C63 has been oddly trouble-free and if I could have only one vehicle, it would still be my trusty Taco without hesitation.
