Ready6, could you measure the prisu cross bar length for me? That set up looks awesome!

Anyone know if the 2nd and 3rd gen tacos roof mounting holes are in the same spot/demissions?

Took advantage of the break in the weather today to start testing a version of our mounts. These aren't indicative of the finished mounts by any stretch - just an early test so we can see how a few things hold up.

Recycled my old Thule foot hardware.

These are not low profile by any stretch, so I may actually cut these down and see how they look sitting tighter to the cap. Right now they're about as tall as the Thule crossbars were, which feels too tall to me.

    Yep.
    Thanks for the update @Barnburner!

Agree on the height of those. If possible, what about a few different variants - low, mid, and a high profiles?

Me personally, I'm going for mounts that will put the bars ~.25"/.50" off the cap.

    Back to the

Our goal is to make a mount that could be assembled in several configurations, each creating a different height. I'd love to get something that's around an inch tall, but to have adjustability in three axes the tightest we've modeled is just shy of two inches tall. Any shorter than that, and we'd have to use less beefy hardware, and that introduces some risk.

    I'm back!

Ready to start a new separate thread to get feedback, updates, questions in one single place: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/beachburner-ovrlnd-racks.591482/

A lot is finally happening, after being able to settle my personal and professional life which were both in a weird state up to lately.
Just to give you an example, to ship the last batch of sideplates to @Barnburner, I used the help of my uncle who had a business account for shipping. Well the secretary checked air freight for the package. Ended up costing $1600 to ship instead of $400 (even at 400$ it was much more than any kind of small profit I would have made to cover time spent on packaging, ordering, shipping parts.. so imagine how much I lost paying $1600).

Just for an update, we're getting 3D printed prototypes (two different versions) later this week!

Those look pretty beefy but still a little tall and have a lot of angle? Have you tried running regular yakima tracks? Mine dont slant like that and are fairly level on the cap. Maybe switching them would put the higher side on the outer edge and balancing it out better. For guys mounting heavier items such as RTT you want the rack lower to the cap but for guys running just recovery gear and camping stuff up there it shouldnt be to much of an issue besides getting into parking garages. Good to see some movement on the product development though.

You could fit 48-49 but i just matched it up with my prinsu for a cleaner look front to rear. If you made a wider rack for the cab then it would match. But i think 47 looks pretty clean with the lines of my 2nd gen DCSB and leer cap. Other caps and models may differ.

Unfortunately, my cap's roof is really rounded, and this gives the illusion the inside of the track is taller than the outside.

Lowering the mounts definitely helped. The angle appears less pronounced, and everything sits much tighter.

How are these T tracks with respect to wind noise? Likewise, for those that made feet out of square tubing, do they whistle or make other wind noise?

That's one of the things I'm actively testing. I haven't been out on the highway yet this week, but around town I haven't noticed any increased noise. That might change at higher speeds though.

TRD Sport hood, TRD Sport paint matched rear bumper and grill, BDF grill light bracket with some Rigids, 40" Rigid roof bar, SPOD, Stereo, Pro Comp Prorunner front strut lift and rear shocks, PXA 7036 Wheels-285/70R17 BFG AT/KOs and some other stuff
First off, thanks Barbburner, for the side plates. Got everything installed over the weekend and great fitment and install was a breeze. When I ordered the extruded bards from tnutz.com I also ordered (2) 1/4 radius bars. Also did some searching on 80/20.net and found some tread step for the grooves in the T-slot. I got everything installed (without the round bards and tread step stuff) and there was a little wind noise that was not there before. I was driving around 70mph when I heard it and it was consistent. The radio and HVAC was off. Just turning on the HVAC and I could not hear the wind noise. Returned home and installed the (2) 1/4 radius bars and the tread step seal. Due to the great placement of the holes and slots on the side plates the radius bars fit tight up against the regulary extruded cross bars with no gap. Test drove again and no noise no matter what I tried. The other benefit to the tread step seal is that you can lay stuff on the bars without really messing up the paint/anodized coat and gives it a non skid finish. The tread stuff was pretty cheap and have plenty left over if I need to make other lengths and such. Overall, install was a breeze, and really like the way it turned out. On to the pictures.
