I bought my 2012 Tacoma back in October of 2017.

I'd always wanted one of these trucks and I had finally gotten myself to a point in life where I could comfortably afford one and I just couldn't help myself! One of the main things that attracted me to this specific truck was that it was a double cab long bed. At the time, my girlfriend Natalie was pregnant and I needed room in the back for the baby (still not much room, but MUCH better than the Ext. Cab). It was also nice to have the long bed for hauling which would come in handy the next year when I moved!

As you can see by the P.O.S. in the background, I already had a "wheeler" so I had no intentions of modifying my Tacoma for any sort of wheeling. In fact, roughly two weeks after I bought the truck I had ordered/installed a leveling kit (Toytec Coil Spacers) and some 33's. The wheel/tire combo I went with was the Moto Metal M0970's with some 275/65R18 Nitto Ridge Grappler's. I chose the Ridge Grappler's because of their on and offroad reliability in case I ever decided to go for a little trail ride with the fam! (and I will add they are a fantastic, but pricey tire)

Now if you jump to today (2/12/19) this is how the truck currently sits. Pretty much the same minus the skid plate which fell off and was replaced with an OEM skid plate.

Now this is where the fun begins.. I want to turn my truck into something I still feel comfortably driving down the road with my girl and now 2 kids, but also something I can do some light trail riding/wheeling in comfortably every now and then. I recently bought a 96 Standard Cab Tacoma (that I will also be doing a build thread on) for some more serious offroading, so I'd like to keep the mods reasonable on this one as it is my daily.

    So here's my plan.
    • Ditch the coil spacers, and get a decent suspension set up in the front (nothing crazy, but nothing crappy)
    • New shocks and springs in the rear.
    • New wheels/tires. I'm aiming to run 35's which YES I know I'll be beating my pinch welds and trimming the cab mount but for the trails local to me, I'd feel much more comfortable on 35's.
    • Gears obviously since I'll be going up in tire size
    • body armor/winch (Fun fact: I already bought a All-pro high clearance rear bumper off someone local to me so I would just need a front bumper & winch)
    • extra storage for long trips, misc. electrical upgrade etc.

and that's pretty much it for now! things may change as I go along, or some things may not happen due to budget and my family coming first but hopefully over the next few months I'll be updating this thread quite frequently! I also plan on making an instagram/youtube account for posting some photos/videos of any and all offroad trips I take. Until next time!

If a high clearance bumper + winch, etc. are for your daily driver, I can't wait to see your serious offroading rig!

Been a while but finally got some spare time (and money!!!) to start working on my truck. First things first I wanted to ditch the coil spacers and get some coil overs. After talking to a few other guys on here and instagram (and based on my budget) I decided to go with the toytec BOSS 3' coil overs. Not the best, not the worst. Heard nothing but good things about them and they were most certainly in my budget.

I also decided it was time to ditch the Moto Metals and get some real wheels

    I picked up these 17x9 3.5BS -38 Offset SCS Ray10's, and some new Maxxis Razr M/T (285/75r17)

The wheels are sweet and the tires I've heard great things about. A little bigger then I expected tho... Decided to test fit before the coil overs got here and I think even with the new suspension I'm gunna be doing lots of banging and cutting

    Still look great tho!!IMG_20190626_201107.jpg IMG_20190625_201106.jpg

I'm gunna start the cutting and stuff tomorrow so I'll be sure to post some before/after pics as well as some pics from the coil over install!

CMC, fender trimming, and bashing my pinch welds ended surprisingly well! Just gotta plate it and do some touch up and she'll be clean. Also I can FINALLY turn full lock for the first time since stock

What tool did you use to cut your fenders with? Just curious as I’ve ran into the same issues as you. Haha.
