Started pulling out the floor in my family room. It was recycled from an old dance floor when put in to my home in the 70s. When we stopped for the day I ran a piece through my planer just to see.
Looks like oak but it looks like chocolate with a wavey grain. Back says Bruce 11 made in USA located in Minnesota
    Thoughts?

That's either mahogany or walnut. Very clear and very, VERY good figure.

    Thanks all.
I was going to give it to the reuse store but will need to reconsider.

The middle is white oak and next to it is Walnut, both sap wood and rwgular, I think it definitely looks like white oak and not Walnut at all

More than likely. I can't see some on using walnut for a dance floor.

I couldn't see my FIL planing whole inches (yes, I said inches) off of hundreds of board feet of 200 year old walnut just to cut a 45° angle on it and use it for ugly ass baseboard, but he did.

People will do funny things to wood they have no respect for.

Looks more like white oak to me. You can hit it with a wet rag and if it changes to a darker walnut color you'll know but if its more tan/cream color white oak.

Not a pro or anything but my dad is a carpenter cabinet builder has been for 40 years!! I picked up enough over the years helping him! I’m almost finished building my shop! I’m a motorcycle/powersports mechanic but this will double as a woodshop for me to build some kitchen tables and other stuff!! It’s almost finished I took a week off work last week and made a big push

Thinking about making some door control panels to match the burl shift knob. I don't want to over do it but the base model is so utterly utilitarian it needs some interest. Have to pull the driver's side to see how doable it is. One other spot that might get blinged is one of the center switch panels but I'm on the fence over whether having overlap with the shift knob would add or detract.

Not maple. Looks a lot like hickory to me. Hard to tell species without seeing a closer picture. Is this an old house?

As far as making it darker like the example pictures you have that is entirely possible. I have stained a bunch of white oak, red oak, hickory and Maple floors all different shades of grey. That is whats "in" right now. There is no good way to stain a floor without sanding it to bare wood first. That being said the sky is the limit with colors. Duraseal has a great line of grey stains.

Ha! Yeah, I can sort of see that. My buddy did say it was like the carcass of some giant beast, so if that beast were a dinosaur...
