I’ll be pulling my winch in a month or two and doing the same. I’ll also be regreasing it and cleaning the electrical connections in the solenoid if needed.

Don’t forget to check the wireless remote battery. Remote failed my last trip at AOAA and I had to use the backup wired option.

Replaced at camp with a “fresh” A23 12v Energizer battery. Fast forward several months and I found a dead remote battery during a routine check of the winch prior to the recent storm.

Found these batteries on Amazon with good reviews and a 5 year replacement warranty.

Hah, you’re cute Floyd. You think I can afford a wireless remote?! Wired is my only option.

I just use car washing soap and warm water when I wash mine. Soak it in a 5 gallon bucket a bunch of times until the water is clear

Want to give my thoughts on why I like the Factor 55 Flat Splicer.

Synthetic winch line has gained popularity over the venerable steel wire cable for many reasons. Strength to weight ratio, ease of use, overall weight and others.

But I believe that synthetic line has some limitations: Prone to abrasion, degradation from UV exposure, needs more preventative maintenance/care, etc.

The Factor 55 Flat link helps mitigate some of this:
    1. With the original winch hook, I would attach it to my bumper mounted steel shackle to store/traveling/off-roading. It literally stays in this same configuration 24/7, except when deployed. This exposes about a foot of the synthetic line to UV light for an extended time. UV is bad and can weaken the line. Plus the winch hook, with its one open side, might be a weak point.
    D3A3EDCD-EC68-4EE4-A930-C138DD3D94F0.jpg

Here’s the winch line nicely tucked in behind the Flat Splicer. Minimum exposure to UV and the elements. I might order the optional front plate that will protect that little bit of exposed line.
    7AF946C5-8A0F-4CA3-B526-A423E3824675.jpg

    2. Note the gentle radius loop of the winch line inside the Flat Link. It looks like it would spread the winching load a lot better than a plain spliced terminal eye.
    D4AC1AF0-2231-4AF5-BE44-D28E12FE2B92.jpg

Note the acute bend in the winch line if this was a plain spliced terminal eye. And imagine if this setup had a a few thousand pounds of winch tension pulling on it. The gentle radius of the Flat Splicer wins this hands down.

Too bad that Prinsu won't fit a 3rd Gen, I'd give you $750 for it.
