I had to pull my battery to change the headlight bulb and noticed the bottom of the battery was real wet and the plastic piece the battery sets on was wet, is it possible for this area to get wet while driving in the rain or is the battery probably leaking, i did not notice a strong acid smell nor did it burn when i got it on my hands. The battery just turned 2 years old and was dry on all the sides except the under side.

Drop some baking soda on it, if it fizzes up, then it's acid. If it doesn't then it's water.

Or just lick it.... if it kills you, it’s battery acid. If it doesn’t it’s water.

Yes it can get wet. The hood isn’t water sealed. If battery acid was leaking like that #1 the battery wouldn’t work anymore and #2 it would have caused severe corrosion and odor.
It wouldn’t take long for it to destroy under your hood or ... ignite.

It won't kill you to lick battery acid.
But you might never taste anything ever again.

Does the battery need to come out to swap bulbs?
    I don’t on my 08.
