Is this future of off off road vehicles? Who would buy one and why? I think this is amazing and would buy one as long as it’s priced right and has a good warranty!! A real good warranty. Please share your thoughts!

The biggest difficulty for this company will be working on supply chain and quality control. If they can manage to nail that item down, there is no doubt that their team will create a small impact on the lifestyle truck segment.

I can't watch the video at work but I feel like the average battery charge won't last nearly long enough to make even moderate remote offroad use very practical or even feasible. Same goes for carrying along extra batteries in the same way one would carry Jerry cans with fuel, due to how expensive the batteries are. And charging stations being few and far between in remote/rural areas.

I like the idea but I feel like it's still a long way off from being practical for anything other than in-city commuter use...but I'll have to watch the video later and see if they address these things

Charging the battery on a multi day camping trip would be hard. Since the motor is at every wheel lifting and modifying the suspension would be somewhat difficult. Attaching Armor would be a shit show. I’ll pass.

One of my friends from college works for <an offroad EV company> they did a 5 day trip thru moab on a "single" charge but had ~60 sqft of some niiice solar panels on the rig that supplied the equivalent of a half charge over the course of the trip.

They do say the vehicle can travel 400 miles on a single full charge. That’s more than most of us even remotely come close to during an off road day unless your a serious Overlander and even pushing that mileage would be tough during just one day. If they have solar panels I think it’s doable. The cool thing is the amount of torque and power you get from the motor. It’s almost unlimited and won’t bog u down during tough climbs. The batteries are also in a complete sealed compartment and you can travel in water up to a meter in depth and that’s pretty amazing.

I’m really interested to see what this can do when it hits the market in 2020. We all know someone with more money than all of us will buy it and test it out for sure!

But do those 400 miles per charge account for the kind of strain a difficult wheeling trip would put on the truck? I imagine that 400 miles is a generous estimate for highway commuting.

I think the idea of using solar panels to charge the battery while out is a good idea

Done right, electric will be awesome off-road. Monster torque at all rpms and independent control of each wheel. When it gets there the current standard IC with gears and tranny will seem like rock and stick technology.

What I get from the video this truck is designed for off road use. I’m thinking they will have a solar charge option which would be a nice add on.

Man that’s what I’m thinking tons and tons of torque and power. Almost unlimited use of each wheel with independent control! The storage this thing has is pretty cool too

This is the wave of the future. In addition to powering your truck, you will also be able to power your camp site. If these new EV developers were smart, they would also include a way to grid tie the vehicle battery bank to your house when you're parked. Store solar for backup while you're not driving......

Right now, no. It’s a luxury vehicle for those can afford it. Just like Tesla. Tesla is more of a luxury car at the moment more than a EV replacement for the general population that drives internal combustion engine powered cars. I certainly wouldn’t spend 60k+ on that thing when I have my taco and can outfit to be far Moreno capable than that. In 30-50 year, maybe. Realistically, I wouldn’t give up my truck over that. Even if it’s priced identical. The joys of driving a my truck and getting on the gas and hearing it rev or any other car, will never be replaced by EV and I’m sure many concur.

Drones, I think drones are the future of off road vehicles. I know apples and oranges, but a drone could be used for a lot of tasks that only an off road vehicle could accomplish. Unless a human being has to physically be there.

Good concept. Can’t wait till we are all electric. I think Elon is going to beat anybody to the electric truck market. Tesla is at least 5 years ahead of every other electric car company. Startups have been promising better and nicer cars than Tesla’s for years, but they never follow through. Also, the idea of battery swaps could be very possible. Borrow an extra battery and swap when needed.

You won’t drive an electric car cause you like the sound and smell of gas? Horrible for the environment.
