Anyone here ever had anything powder coated locally? Wondering who to use and what to expect to pay. Thinking about new shocks all around and maybe powder coating the front springs a different color. Not gonna do it if it's more than say $100.

 

I did a few years ago at a place up in Springfield, ma. I don't remember the name of the place, but I think it was ~200 for a bumper

 

I used a local guy to do my BAMF being the grill light bar mount, and that was about $80 or so, so...

 

Depending on where you're located, we use Giering Metal Finishing in Hamden. Not sure what they'd charge for such low quantities. We get thousands of our parts powder coated, so we get big price breaks. As for powder coating springs, I wonder what kind of longevity you would get out of them before they started cracking the coating. That's a LOT of movement, and IIRC from my talk with the owner, powder coat is kinda brittle. We get some parts done in E-Coat (Epoxy Coat - Black only at Giering), which is a really tough paint applied in much the same way as powder coat, but I think he said it's more flexible. How much more, I'm not sure...That e-coat stuff is DIRT cheap though, since they run that line constantly, and it only runs black.

 

Of course, you could always DIY it. Just so long as the parts can fit inside your oven.

The system and the powder will cost you $83, and then you have it forever.

 

Thanks for all the replies. Probably not worth it since you can't really see the springs anyway plus I did not think about the movement and potential to crack the coating. Although I believe they are powder coated from the manufacturer but that is probably specially formulated for springs. Maybe not though - I guess I just assumed they were powder coated. Maybe it's some other kind of coating from the manufacturer. What does Fox, King, ICON use to coat their springs?

Doesn't really make a lot of sense. There's a blizzard out there, I need to get gas, but I won't be driving in this stuff!

 

I joined BJ's just for the cheap gas. They are anywhere from .05 to .10 cheaper per gallon & they 'were' convenient.
1/3 of town will be there filling up + filling their little red jerry can(s). 2/3 of town will be at Costco.
Hose reaches across the Pius & Tacoma, but not the Tundra which is the storm vehicle.
Ever notice 80% of vehicles have gas fill on the drivers side & of those only 3% drivers know to pull the hose across vehicle.

Sheesh, lines going to be long. Bah. Why can't BJs gas stay open to 10pm like a real gas station?
