Hey guys, I’m getting a German Shepherd puppy soon and was just wondering what you all do with your dogs on car rides. We have a dachshund right now that usually sits on my wifes lap but that’s not going to work for very long with a big dog. I was thinking of leaving the back seats folded down and putting something down to keep hair and mud off the seats. So let’s hear what you do for your dogs, I’d love to see some pictures too!

I have a rear seat cover that easily slips over the rear headrests and a harness on the dog to protect her from sudden stops.

I keep the seat cover on and remove it when not in dog use. Takes 10 seconds to roll up.
I no longer let the dog ride up front.

Awesome pup. You've won half the battle by having a crew cab. Our full grown German Shepherd sometimes travels in my access cab, but it's not easy. Our other two dogs a slightly smaller.

Someone posted a nice seat cover that goes over the rear seats while they're up. Looked like it would work really well.

I have a 75lb chocolate lab. Initally I got a rear seat dog hammock but she still tears up the back seats.

I just got a Softopper and put a bed mat and a bunch of furniture pads in the back, now she rides back there

Back seat dog covers and usually have an 70lb lab and a 40 lb Sheppard back there. Put on a body harness and seatbelts to keep them settled as well

This one looks like it would work well. I like the idea of still having some seats available

I have a full size version similar to that but clip only half of it down to make a seat available as well.

I added a pic. It’s not the greatest but it shows the space. One seat is still fully useable and some soace in the middle for storage.

I just put mine in the back with a soft topper and his bed. In the summer you can just open up the back or roll up part of the sides. It never gets too hot back there.

I also like the idea of a softopper because I would be able to fold it down for loading dirt bikes and the dog can ride back there for camping. I’m just not comfortable with the dog being back there driving around town (too many idiots on the road)

I built a very simple platform out of some scrap plywood, 2x4s and carpet for my access cab. Mace my husky loves it back there. I'm sure you could easily make something similar work int he double cab.

I have an 80lb German Shepherd and I just fold the seats down and throw a super thick moving blanket over them when I take her on trips. Congrats on the puppy, they really are awesome dogs.

Looks good, not sure something like that would work on a double cab without pulling the seats out though
