A well built and tuned turbo 2.7 will easily smoke a V6, but will your drive train and your insurance company stand for it, not likely! Unless you have 30 or 40k burning a hole in your pocket, you may want to pass on this. Unless your a mechanic and maybe a tuner to, hot rod a taco maybe more than you really want! Maybe look at one of LCE's Headers for the 2.7, it really helped mine, but even that is around $450 or so! I don't care what you have, someone will have some thing faster and it's a pickup truck not a sports car ya know!. It's kind of like, who's got the fastest turtle!

I'm sorry, did you mean 3-4k instead? I'd love to know where you got your cost estimation to make one of our trucks turbo. Unless of course your 30-40k figure is for a new truck, which still doesn't really apply in any way shape or form here.

"Will your drive train and your insurance company stand for it, not likely!"
Where does this come into play? It's very obvious you haven't done any research on the drivetrains in our trucks.
The R155F trans is part of the Supra transmission family, and can have a billet gearset literally dropped right into it if you wanted to go full-retard. Just upgrade the clutch (manual) or get a shift kit (auto) and you're good.
The rear end on the non TRD-OR is an 8.4" rear with 4.10's. No risk of breaking a rear at safe power levels <400hp. Add in a Truetrac and let 'er eat.
The FPR is the same used on the Supra as well. It'll handle 15psi of boost all day long. Just need new injectors and pump if you plan on going higher than ~8psi.
The bottom end (crank and rods) are factory forged. The pistons are the weak point being hypereutectic, and will hold about 450hp before they're the weak point.
The stock head flows extremely well, as it's upgraded from the 3RZ which handled boost wonderfully.
The stock head gasket is already an MLS gasket, and guys are pushing 12-15psi on stock studs. ARP sells a stud kit that will hold you upwards of 20psi.

Just like the 2JZ and 3RZ, Toyota overengineered the balls out of this motor, as if it was meant to be boosted. In reality it was for strength and longevity, but for our boosty purposes it's an ideal situation.

    Now onto the warranty part:
I'm going to take a wild guess and say you've never heard of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Let me simplify it for you- it simply states that a warranty claim cannot be denied due to modifications to the vehicle unless it is a direct result of an upgraded component. So- if you boost your truck then your radio stops working and you go to the dealer for a warranty claim, they're not going to deny the claim just because you've boosted. If you blew the trans/rear/lifted the head because of boost? They'll deny the claim, but the warranty is NOT voided. If you decide to boost your truck while it's in warranty- you assume the risk of shit going wrong. But generally you're smart enough to know the limits of the equipment, and the warranty process. If you lift the head from boost, just return the vehicle to stock before bringing it for warranty. 9 times out of 10, the claim will breeze right through. When I bring my truck to the dealer for my free oil changes, the reps and techs LOVE being near it. I get tons of questions and positive remarks about it, and I've had warranty services performed with no questions asked.

So far the only true thing in your post is that a turbo 2.7 will in fact, easily smoke a V6. Ask me how I know.
The LCE header is a great addition to our trucks, as is the intake manifold spacer. Pair all that with a nice exhaust, and you'll get a decent amount more power, with a torque curve that comes on sooner and is stronger throughout.

To the OP @boarshead - if you want to turbo your truck, you need to do PLENTY of research prior. You need to setup a budget of at least $1500, and have some minor fabrication/welding skills. You need to set your power goals based on your equipment and budget. You need to expect parts failures, and learn what parts should be upgraded to keep the same level of longevity as stock power levels. There's no actual "kit" (Besides one that OzBoost Australia sells, but it's a complete dumpster fire) available yet, but you can make it happen like myself and a handful of other members did. The payoff is such an amazing feeling. To hear and feel the boost kick in on a truck that was never intended to be boosted is something 99% of Tacoma owners will never understand.

Well said! That being said - do you have a build page for your truck? I know there are other thread but sounds like you've got the turbo already sorted.. I guess the big thing is the manifold and DP - just seems easier than a V8 swap ( less fab work ) especially when it comes down to cleanliness and wiring...

That's all well and good, but I was posting to the OP, not you! If you turbo a vehicle without informing your insurance, the Moss act will not do you any good, your insurance will not pay a claim on it! The last wreck I had cost 65K, in medical and hospital bills, that was just for me, I was alone or I could have be bankrupted, if I had passengers that were injured. I have a LCE header on my Taco, it makes a noticeable improvement in power and driveability, well worth it. If the OP were to pay someone to install and tune the turbo and the motor blow up and has to replace it out of pocket or wrecks an uninsurable vehicle, 30 to 40k may not be so out of line! Personally I would rather have a turbo 4cyl, than a v6 any day.

Interesting stuff you'll have to post up when you get it tuned, would be curious to see a 2tr at like 20lbs of boost. Mine didn't make 200k miles N/A

I call bs. There’s more to that story. I’ve wrecked a car with an aftermarket supercharger. Insurance paid everything completely. Except for my car. (I only had liability)
