2nd gen maintenance required light

How do u reset the light?

 

Key off, hold trip reset button, turn key to run, wait for dashes to go away, done. Depending on your truck your odometer either has to be set to trip A or odometer.

How else would we have gotten to 11 pages.. I mean what else are we gonna do on here.

 

I read this in the manual on my first oil change in my 99 taco and it worked the same in my 2005 Sienna and 2009 Taco

Indeed....and, we used to use maps that were impossible to re-fold, while traveling this great country

The sun has been rising up in the east every morning for a billion years and then setting in the west to create the night. Don't worry, it will reset again tonight.

So I am not the only one who has changed his own oil and had to YouTube the light fix...too lazy to check the manual...I'm more of the picture book kind of guy.

 

What light?

 

This is the same as in my wife's 05 Sienna. When I bought my 09 Tacoma, I waited patiently for the light, but it never came on. Then I read somewhere that Tacomas from Canada don't have this light. (Mine came from Canada) I don't understand why. I think this is a helpful reminder when the light comes on. I wonder if there is any way to get it activated for my truck.

 

Does this process work for the 3rd Gen as well?

It does...I gave it a shot.

 

2017 Taco, worked for me when I shut the truck off and the end of trip screen was up. I held the button down watching the reading go to zero and restarted. Got tired of no digital display. Thanks to the OP
ETA From the manual:
Perform the necessary maintenance.
Please reset the message after the maintenance
is performed. (→P. 445)
Turn the engine switch off.

Vehicles without a smart key system:
While pressing the “ODO/TRIP” button (→P. 88), turn the engine switch to
the “ON” position. (do not start the engine because reset mode will be canceled)

Vehicles with a smart key system:
While pressing the “ODO/TRIP” button (→P. 88), turn the engine switch to
the IGNITION ON mode. (do not start the engine because reset mode will
be canceled)

Continue to press and hold the button until the odometer displays “000000”.
