Has anyone bought a CO2 tank and made a powertank out of it? I am looking to do this but I am unsure what type of regulator I would need to buy/ best place to mount it/ any other general problems I would run into. I was looking at a 10lb tank and they are pretty affordable. Thanks.

The first powertanks were just scuba tanks from what I understand.

If there is a welding supply store near you, I'd stop in there and see what they have.

Another possibility is a CO2 system for home brewing/kegging. Those seem a little cheaper than the welding or powertank systems, but I'm also not sure they could handle the abuse of off-roading...

Yeah, I was looking into tanks and I haven't had any problems finding ones that fit my needs, I just don't know if I need a specific type of regulator or not... I was also looking for some ideas for mounting...

EDIT: I have seen somewhere on here that someone took a big piece of pvc pipe and set the tank inside of it and fastended it down using bolts but was trying to change the way he fastened it down because the bolts were tearing up his tank

I was thinking about trying this as well. Like jbrandt said co2 tank for home brewing can be found way cheaper. You'll just have to use a cylinder cap over the valve when not in use.

I feel like I could find a similar regulator for way cheaper though... I think i just need to do some more research on what i would really need. $200 seems kinda steep for what it is..

You can find set pressure co2 regulators on Amazon for about 40 bucks. You can buy a tank at a welding supply store fir about 70 bucks. Cold proof hose for 15 bucks at Harbor Freight and you're done. If you buy a tank from a welding supply store you can trade it for a full one instead of waiting for a refill every time.

The hose was just kinda sitting around at work. But you could get away with a 3/8 Hybrid hose from harbor freight for less than $20. Regulator is adjustable, so I can use my impact gun, but if that’s not a need, you can get a fixed non-adjustable regulator for less than $30. Anything else? Feel free to ask

I like the idea of not having to wait! Do you have a set up Similar to this? If so, have you had any problems with it?

Haven’t sorted out the mounting solution yet, but looking in using a Anerex 20lb fire extinguisher mout, or just go the cheap route and use those super cool quick fists and strap them to my rack. The tank I found local for $20 empty and out of date for the last hydro test, but was able to do a 1 for 1 exchange via my local Amerigas for $39 I believe.

This is the tank mount I was talking about These are the Super Quick Fist Clamp I’m also looking into.

That's a steal on the tank! What does it mean for it to be out of date for the last hydro test? Sorry for so many questions, I am just trying to avoid buyers remorse

No worries brotha, I got no problem helping you get sorted out. The CO2 tanks have to be Hydro Leak Tested every so often, I’m not sure on the interval, but the tank I picked up had a stamped date of 05/2009. When I brought it to the Amerigas, the rep told me it was definitely out of tolerance.

After a quick google search, I found that the tanks need to be tested at least every 5 years, I'm glad you mentioned that though because I have been looking at some used tanks and that is definitely something to be on the lookout for.

    Happy 1,000th message btw
