If you have been through 3 sets of gears because they "whine" you need to go to a different installer.

2” lift Bilstien 6112’s and 5160’s. 265/70/17 Nitto Grapplers G2. TRD wheels. TRD Grill. ARE shell. Exhaust.
They are a reputable shop and all they do is diffs (recommended by gear manufacturer). I figure if they are willing to put one more set in (on their dime and time), what do I have to loose. I may not have been clear, but the next set will be the third. Most likely next week so I will keep you updated.

Also want to be clear 4.88’s are much better than stock. I will be going to 285/70/17’s once I have the $$.

I’m kinda thinking I should’ve went with 5.29’s as well. No real issues with the 488’s, but would like a lower gear on occasion.

Are your 4.88’s quiet or do they howl around 65mph?

If you’re asking me, then no. They are quite as a church mouse.

Yes. Thanks for your response. New to this and still figuring out how to respond to post. Would like to hear from more members to see if I’m alone on noise after 4.88 install or quiet as stock.

You might not be alone but you should be. Gear sets aren't supposed to add harmonics to your truck.

Does it depend on throttle position? Press more and it goes away or let off and it goes away? Same speed.

So I put 488 gears in my 2018 Tacoma. Two wheel drive with 2.7 auto trans. Got the whole third member from east coast gear supply. What a difference, much more umf, and getting a bit better gas mileage! It doesn’t shift so much and it took me 1hour and 10 min from start to finish to install. Did my 500 mile break-in, the fluid was a bit dirty but not black and I had no big metal shavings just some very small my new stuff stuck to the magnet.

@17Tacoforme, are they replacing the gears or just adjusting the spacing?

The third member is the whole center chunk which came with the gears. Yes they did set them up for me also.
