I think he was describing needing a battery that is going thru deep discharges. The reason I went with the AGM was because it was totally maintenance free, drop it in and never look at it again for more than a decade.

The maintenance free part is definitely a great benefit, no more adding water or cleaning corrosion from the terminals! Don't think you can pick wrong between those, they have Northstar thru the Group buys on here, don't think you can find any deals on the Odyssey but its a damn good battery.

24F is the Factory 3rd Gen size, if you want to use the 27F then grab a battery tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package

No, the 24F is across the board 3rd Gen, you can up it to 27F with the 2nd Gen tray.

Not sure if it's on Amazon, but there is a part number floating around in one of the battery threads on here, think they run about $30 if memory serves me.

No, no I wasn’t. Any AGM battery needs a higher voltage to be charged up to 100%. If you have an AGM you should be throwing a smart battery charger on them periodically to ensure they are being charged fully every so often. So, they are not really maintenance free, unless you only want a battery that will eventually only hold 80% charge of what it’s really capable of.

Never had an AGM battery. Do they instruct you to do this when you purchase. Owners manual?

Like i mentioned earlier, i put one in my car and it lasted 11 years with absolutely zero maintenance, the only time it ever saw a charger was because I physically ran it down.

Yeah, I mean for everyday use it’s fine. I can’t imagine there would ever be an issue.

If one was to run accessories like a fridge then it would be wise to put it on a charger occasionally.

Right, that was why I keep thinking you were talking about a deep cycle battery if you were running heavy stuff draining the battery. The usage of my car is a little odd as it's not my daily driver and sits in a unheated garage for the winter, may not run the car for up to 2 months, battery always spun the starter right up after those long periods of non use.

So I’m trying to figure this out for AGM batteries. If our alternators (less than 14.0v) only recharge to 80% after deep cycle or you run it to say 60%, you’ll need a battery charger that’s ideally 14.7v to get it back to 100%?

And my next question, if the battery is 100% charged and you never run it below say 90% will the alternator keep it in float 13.6v? at 90-100%?

Sorry for all the questions, trying to make sense of this.

Not sure if this is meant for me.

Thanks I’m going to check for a draw tmrw. The only accessories I have are a ham and cb radio.

I took the battery in the batteries plus this afternoon and they said it was shot. I just picked up an X2 Power 27m dusk purpose AGM out the door (paid core) for $350. An expensive battery indeed, but the family and I get out there so I want the peace of mind.

If Toyota warranties my stock battery, it’ll give me a head start on a dual setup...

    We’ll see what happens.

My ‘16 battery died under 2000 miles. AAA guy said that was the 3rd dead battery in a new Tacoma he had seen that week.

He replaced it, no more problems, I’m at 40 K miles now.
