I’ve wanted to test it out to see what it can do, but always forget I have it :facepalm:The last time I went out with full intention of testing it I inadvertently damaged the harness to my speed sensor, which sent the whole system into chaos.

I still haven’t figured out when MTS is applicable or exactly what it’s purpose is :notsure:

I’m sure there is a thread somewhere that explains it all.

Sproat Lake, Vancouver Island. Was fogged in all day by the lake so we grabbed some chairs and firewood and headed up the logging roads till we got above the fog and enjoyed some late afternoon sun IMG_20190114_1517500.jpg IMG_20190114_1512562.jpg

OK, let me try to help...
MTS (Multi-Terrain Select) is the low range 4WD traction control (limited slip/ locker-like) and you dial it to the type of terrain. You otherwise control the accelerator and brakes.
Crawl is cruise control for the low range so you only steer and it controls the accelerator. You can hit the gas or brakes, but that will disengage the control while braking or accelerating.
I believe Crawl only works when MTS is active? You don't need to use Crawl when you use MTS. If you don't use MTS however, the truck in the low range has no better traction than any other model of 4x4 Tacoma. The Off Road TRD 4x4 is special because of it having A-TRAC and MTS... makes the truck drive anywhere, like a Sherman tank!

Wanted to check out the 4x4 roads at Joshua Tree Natl. Park on my way back to AZ this past holiday weekend. Not only was I informed the roads were closed due to rain but got to wake up to a little snow at Black Rock Canyon campgrounds the next morning. Next time, Joshua Tree.....8073E4BA-EAEB-4B33-9906-8D1E47B93BCA.jpg

    Roger.

MTS and Crawl are independent of each other. At least, that is my understanding. Otherwise, your explanation sounds about right.

Daddy got a new pair of shoes, so went up to the hills above Reno for their first (snowy) trail run. What an upgrade the KO2's are over the stock Wranglers - it's full beast mode now!

I kind of think that Crawl only works with MTS (otherwise tires would slip and spin over low traction places). But, MTS works without Crawl as Crawl is just cruise control for creeping slowly.

I need to spend some time with a willing 3rd Gen Off-Road 4x4 to see how it all works compared to my 2010. We have a ton of snow in our local San Diego mountains today! Over a foot is "a ton" for us in San Diego!

Did you get up Mormon Well road or were you on a different one? I was hoping to leave work early and head that way but it's not looking like it will happen. Gorgeous photo!
