Then you drop the $60 or so on the bushing and install it. It's not a hard job and it really does work. I've done 3 of them and have about 50k miles on the 4Runner since installing it with no problems at all.

Let me know if you need to borrow the tool to pull the needle bearing out. I'll loan it to you if you pay shipping

Yes, keep us updated!!!! Just took mine in today....it was raining and of course they said they did not detect the vibration. Egcs is already in the mail and on its way. Now wondering if I should tan it back over tomorrow to see if it will act up for them.

New guy here...been a lurker for a while. I had the vibe but it would only do it in 4hi while coasting, when on the power nothing. Nice and quiet in 2wd. I installed the bushing and it got worse...only in 4hi and only in coast again. U joints, pinion all in great shape, diff oil had no excessive filings in it. Anybody else have this happen?

Went in today with TSB in hand...they rode and felt it. Parts are ordered and repair will be covered under warranty. Said 2” lift had nothing to do with it.

Having this done at a local truck shop next week. They quoted me 3.5 hours labor which seems like a really long time for this job. How long did it take you to do yours?

About an hour the last 2 times. The first time it took about twice as long due to inexperience and an abundance of caution.

It should really only take about 20 minutes more than swapping out a CV axle.

    What's going on everyone,
I've determined that I need to install the ECGS bushing as part of the lift on my 3rd gen TACO.
I plan to do the work over Spring break and was wondering if anyone has the needle bearing removal and ECGS install tool they would like to sell or rent out for a week or so in March?
I'm located in San Antonio in case someone is local. Thanks.

    Hi All,
Ive owned my 2012 Tacoma TRD 4x4 4 door with 56k mile since 5/2018, now at 63k..Did not changed the suspension, but came with icon upfront, stock rear.
Never notice vibration until about 3 mouths ago, but maybe I just had the stereo to loud ? But once I noticed it, I quickly found out I was out of warranty by 1 year and a few thousand miles. (My Acura has 7yr or 7k Power Train Warranty) My Drive to work is only a few miles and it was vibrating each way and was driving me crazy. I search google and the exact problem came up and I found this thread, I could believe it. I called two Toyota dealers and no body knew anything in parts or service. I went with the cheapest repair first and did the diff drop, but nothing. I ordered the bushing, puller from ECGS and a new seal from the dealer. I work at an Acura dealer, so I had my master tech watch the video and we pulled the needle bearing and replaced it with supplied bushing.
It worked !!!!! I can't believe its gone, I was ready to get rid of it, now I can love her...haha

I can't thank the member of this site enough, no vibration in the front diff, my rear diff has a new breather location, my trailer hook up are up out of the way now, cool TRD center caps for Method wheels, anytime rear camera kit, 60k service (front & rear diff/transmission/transfer case/oil change/brake fluid service), front skid plate, with more to come....Need Head light upgrade/bed stiffeners/4 inch lift/need to install front camera kit/air horn kit/rock sliders.....Honey I need a larger 4x4 fund..haha

Going to Big Bear this weekend to run 3N16 to Lucern Valley , look pretty easy but Im new to all of this...The snow should add some fun..

btw - the ECGS puller was $45.00 plus shipping. Send me $25.00 and Ill ship it to you. I won't need it again.

Thanks again for all the great info !
    take care all,
    Don

ECGS does the install themselves for $160, including parts, but they easily get it done in under an hour. If a shop has never done it before, I can see it taking (maybe) two hours.

A full 3.5 hours is a bit of a stretch for any competent mechanic, though.
