Ok, so I'm 6'3". I fit in the truck, but my left knee touches the door when I relax. I could push my seat back, but then I have to reach for the wheel. Not comfortable or safe. Couldn't find anything online, but I found it was easy, took about 10 minutes, and with minimal modifications.

what does the space look like? I like the mod and you knee is very nice, but a detailed pic of the space would be great.

Step one: remove plastic trim covering the carpet

Pull back the mat/carpet to reveal the foam block, held on by 2 captured plastic nuts. They spin out easy with a flathead. MVIMG_20190221_121937.jpg MVIMG_20190221_122457.jpg

After removing the block, the carpet and mat don't want to lay on to the floor. I made a cut into the carpet to help it lay flat, then a couple pie cuts in the floor linerMVIMG_20190221_122722.jpg MVIMG_20190221_122806.jpg MVIMG_20190221_122751.jpg
Reassembled it does leave a gap by the trim, but that doesn't bother me. Might try to stitch down the mat to keep it from floppingIMG_20190221_122822.jpg

Comfort is 100% improved, and didn't cost me a dime

Just curious Admiral Noodle legs (see what I did there?) but what's going on with your floor mat now that your dead pedal is removed? Do you just have this soft collapsing area of the floormat where the pedal used to be? Serious question I could see that as very annoying while driving.

Edit: I see what you did for the floormat now. Your post beat me by a couple minutes.

I’m gonna give this a go in the spring. Always though that dead pedal was metal under there. I’m not 6ft and I’d like it gone just to stretch on longer trips.

    Made my day @Admiral Noodle

The rubber mat is somewhat loose, so I may try to secure it down somehow. Only downside to feel is that the two studs that held the block are still there. They don't have. Your foot by any means but in my boots my foot kind of rocks side to side on them.

You could grind them down, but I didn't want to go that far and it's pretty minor

Happy to help! A big complaint of these trucks is the driver comfort and it's an easy way to improve it

Just wanted to say that doing this made driving the truck 1000% times better. Being 6'3 with long legs made it really uncomfortable and difficult to find a place for both my feet to rest. Now with this removed and a cushion to level the seat out (instead of sitting in a bucket) I love it

Being tall in a Tacoma sucks. I am going to give this a go. Might go ahead do the passenger side too so my OCD doesn't wear me down.

Thankx for your idea. My Gen 2 Taco had a broken dead pedal. I'm gonna throw it away, get rid of the protruding nylon stuff, buy "cut to fit" mats on Amazon, throw the mats on top of the floor going up, trim as needed. Dead pedals are a pustule on a great truck!

Just be careful, theres an awful lot of electronics that are guarded by that block of foam and dead pedal which are now exposed in multiple ways by your mod.

Yes it does but there aren't any pedals so there is plenty of room to stretch legs and put feet.
