    S mode would help.
    Disconnecting the battery would help.
Disconnecting the battery and driving it hard for awhile would help.
Anything that keeps you from using the AI learning of the transmission fixes the issue.

The problem isn't that the tsb didn't take or work, the issue is the learned behavior of the transmission and it's programming.

Those may help, but they’re all things that people shouldn’t have to do for the truck to operate properly.

What exactly is the TSB? couldn’t get the pdf to load. Is it just reflashing it back to start the learning over? I haven’t noticed it being too bad with my new 19, but if it helps I’d like to get it done.

My transmission clunks when it is down shifting between 20 and 15 mph. They flashed the system at my 15k and 20k mile check. It worked for a few days and then back to the same. They keep denying anything is wrong. I am about to write to the factory before my warranty is up. My Taco is a 2017 Limited.

My '18 Tacoma has been constantly searching for gears since new. Two months ago I got the TSB....still shifts like crap. And for the first time, I took it on the highway to Boston...MPG was 17.0, and constantly shifting up down up down, etc. Sometimes I just get so mad I stomp the pedal to the floor to make it downshift and move. I love the truck otherwise, but I can't take it anymore. I've had all kinds of trucks, none of them including previous Toyotas have had this problem. I think it is because the new 3.5 is a low torque/high HP motor at high RPM, and with the tranny always trying to upshift for a low rpm, it just does not work. My 2nd Gen 4.0L/auto shifted flawlessly.

Before you give up try driving it in s5 all the time. It won't shift as much because you are locking out 6th gear.

Imo, if you like how it drives now, I wouldn't change anything. But that's me.

My truck took about 5,000 miles before the engine loosened up and allowed the MPG to go up. Now I am peaking at 22.5.

Best thing to do is trade it for a Tundra or for another Truck.

Took the Taco out for a 100 mile trip and noticed that it does not matter if the engine is cold or not, the clunking is not affected by temperature.

I have a 2016 and was about to take it in for my 40K. I brought up the TSB because I'm having all the issues people are describing. They told me it's not covered because I'm over 36k. I promptly showed them the TSB printout I had in hand that states "96 months or 80K." They still won't honor it. I'm not sure what to do now. Might go to a different dealer and see if they will honor it.

I had this same TSB done to mine at the first 5000 mile tire rotation...it made a world of difference.

It's TSB 0058-18 for automatic transmissions. It changes the shift points in the tranny to higher RPM's and generally makes the truck a lot more pleasurable to drive. I don't find it "hunting" for down or upshifts anymore. Don't know if it's for the 19 so have your service writer check with the tech.
