HI, thanks for letting me join your forum. I'm Lisa Valencia. I've driven Toyotas all my life and I love them! Now I need a truck and I've decided on the Tacoma. In a few weeks I'll be looking for a used one in the Salt Lake City area. I'm thinking 2004 or 2005 (or older). I would love some advice or suggestions.
    1. My budget limit is $10,00.00.
    2. I'll be putting a slide in truck camper. My concern is the weight of the camper on the truck and if I'll need to enhance the suspension system. I'll be looking for a used camper and I have a low budget for that, so it will probably weigh more than the Tacoma's normal payload.
    3. I'm also wondering about the engine's ability to go up mountains with the extra weight. I don't plan to go off road but we do have some high mountains in the Northwest.

I would be very grateful for your opinions! Thanks.
    Lisa

Thank you for the welcomes. And to irayfz6, I'm not towing so sorry, but your link to towing education did not help me. I am putting a slide in camper on the back of my truck. I am carrying, not towing. It would be nice if someone out there has some experience with using a slide in truck camper on a Tacoma. I'm beginning to think I'll have to buy a Tundra - but I don't want such a big truck!

Thanks Mr. Buckhunter. I've heard of those. I imagine I can have them installed to make a smoother ride. Is there anything else I can do to make the Tacoma able to carry more payload?

The air bags can handle far more weight than our trucks are capable of hauling. You could also consider a heavier leaf pack on the rear.

BuckhuntingTacoma: So the airbags really do more than just make a smoother ride. They enhance the truck's payload capacity!

And I imagine the "leafpack" does the same. I have no idea what that is but I'll have to find out. Is this the kind of thing that I can have done in a mechanic's shop in most big cities? (I plan to buy the Tacoma in Salt Lake.) And do you know how much it costs, please?

Thank you everybody for the welcome greetings. I appreciate the welcomes but I'm really hoping I can get some answers. I do not have a Tacoma yet and I may not even buy one if it seems it will not work out to haul a slide in camper.
