Installed a new alternator and battery. And notice my negative had a ground wire broke off. And my new alternator is running extremely hot. Would this cause the alternator to run hot. Also it's a 2004 Tacoma 3.4 v6. Everything is running great and idleing fine just not sure the purpose of the ground wire for the negative terminal on the battery and why the new alternator is blistering hot. Thank you everyone for the help

All ground wires need to be connected.
