With better speakers come thicker (not paper) cones, heavier voice coils, and much larger magnets. They take more power to move. Physics can be a bitch sometimes.
The factory speakers are paper cones with tiny mangents so the radio’s anemic 5w power can move them pretty well. But not so much with good speakers.

So if I add small amp I would get as much bass on the new speakers as I do off the stock ones?

I just didn't want to redo the whole sound system in the truck. I just think I was expecting more out of this simple upgrade is all...

Adapters for what? The Subaru/Kicker tweeters don't need adapters and when you buy the Kickers for the doors from Crutchfield the adapters come with.

Just ordered all 6 for my Tacoma! So how much dynamat is needed? I was thinking about just doing like 8”x8” areas Inside the speaker cavities and just letting the stock door insulation/sound proofing act as the rest of the matting. Pros/cons of doing the ENTIRE doors?

Are the Kicker CS Speakers an upgrade from the JBL "Premium" Speakers?
I know the Tweeters won't fit. Just wanted to see if upgrading the speakers would be a good idea. Thanks.

This thread was created for speaker upgrades for the non-JBL head unit. If you already have the JBL system, I don't think you'll want to switch to Kicker speakers.

    Hey all,

I did a little DIY on modding the factory dash speaker connectors while I was upgrading my new non JBL 2019 with Kickers all the way around. Obviously the Subaru’s if you go that route will plug and play but the connector on the bottom of the factory dash speaker can be modded to make a DIY harness for just about any tweeter you want. New tweeters work great.

Hope it helps some guys out...

Just FYI for everyone looking into these speakers. I just checked crutchfield and the rear CSC series speakers are listed as no longer available on the website. Not sure if they'll come back in stock again.

I doubt they will come back in stock - seems they're no longer available because they've been replaced with a newer model (Kicker 46CSC674), which according to Crutchfield, is not compatible with the Taco. Or maybe because it's a new model, they just need to update their vehicle database.

The new 6x9 are 2 db less sensitive, they may not work as well with the stock radio.
