Buzzing interior panels

hey guys, just finished up my audio install, Subaru tweeters, CS door speakers x4, kicker KX800.5 amp and a kicker 2ohm 12” sub Behind passengers rear, and I’ve got some rattling. I think I’ve narrowed it down to the front door window/lock switch panels. Any simple fixes to secure them a little tighter in their spots? I plan to add some sound deadener to the doors and back walls but curious if there’s something I can do in the meantime. Thanks!

 

Just to double check this is the problem spot, pop these panels off and listen to some music and see if the buzzing does actually stop. No use fixing a spot that isn’t causing a problem (ask me how I know!)

If this is the spot, first try just re-seating it and make sure all the clips are intact and get inserted correctly.

If that doesn’t work, it will have to get narrowed down to what in the switch is making the buzz. Is it the plastic against the door panel? Is it something inside the switch assembly itself? This will help find a solution (short of covering the whole door panel in sound deadening)

 

Thanks man, if I lightly push the switch panel toward the door panel, bass rumbles and no buzz. Obviously I had the panels apart for the door speaker install. I’ll have to pull the switch panels off and see if I see anything obvious.

 

The buzzing you are hearing is likely the plastic vapor barrier. You'll need some sound deadener - just trace the vapor barrier onto the a quality butyl rubber deadener, install (don't cover up your wiring harnesses) then discard the vapor barrier.

Also, the front door tweeter covers are just snapped fitted into place - consider taking them out, and epoxying or super glueing them in permanently to the door card. The will rattle otherwise.

 

The door window switches buzz like crazy with certain frequencies. I've been meaning to pull mine up and see what I can do to quiet them down.

 

Foam! Sounds like you need to decouple some things (stop them from rubbing together). Foam is great for that. Neoprene is most ideal, but there are lots of suitable materials that will work - like garage door seal, etc. Closed cell is preferred, but not mandatory unless you live in a really humid environment.

 

Thanks guys. My first thought was some thin foam on the panels that still allow the clips to engage but separate one plastic part from the other. Something I can buy at Lowe’s?

I'm working on fixing this as well. After the speaker upgrade, my door panels did the same thing. I used some adhesive weather stripping around the sides of the box, which helped quite a bit, but there is still some rattle. I've read that people have wrapped electrical tape around the tabs on the door panel, but cant confirm yet if that helps. I'm attempting this today and will report back.

 

Good idea! Let us know how it works out for you. I did buy some adhesive backed closed cell weather strip at Lowe’s but waiting until I get some noico deadener to revisit the project.

for my 03 it only does it with DS window open and passenger side pop out window open… some cross wind thing. It’s absolutely annoying.

i just pulled off some aftermarket window tint film asi noticed tiny edges lifting on the the pop out window, but that did not help.

Guess I may need to pull off the PS panel and see if I can locate the specific culprit.
