    Hi guys,

Yesterday I had to pull a friends car out of a snow bank, to do so I put the Taco into 4LO.
After his car was hooked up I slowly hit the accelerator to take up the slack, once the line was tight I started applying more power to get his car moving but I noticed that my front (and probably rear differential) and/ or transmission would make terrible grinding noises while the tires were slipping. Once the tires got traction and the truck started moving all of the noises stopped so my thought is the differentials were "grinding" while trying to get traction.
I've never had limited slip differentials before, and while I know how they work in theory I didn't expect such grinding noises while they were fighting for traction, is this normal?

I have an SR5 is that helps, I know different packages have different diffs.

Are you sure it wasn’t the brakes using traction control?

sounds like abs---if it was making a grinding metal noise im sure you would've noticed it and stopped pulling immediately.

Trac is active by default in 4lo unless you turn it off.

If you know you had tire slippage, I can guarantee the trac system (which fires brakes with abs system) was firing off. It is loud.

[Edit. And sounds like it probably worked to help get enough traction]

Ahhhhhh, that must have been it. I had it all turned off prior to switching from 4Hi to 4Lo it must have reactivated and I didn't notice.
It was definitely loud because the person in the other car mentioned it to once we were done.
I've never had a vehicle with Trac before and didn't quite know what the sticky thread meant about it but now I understand.

Too many buttons on this thing sometimes, I'm used to my old jeep with the good ol' rip it and stick it 4wd lever.

    Thanks guys :)
