Anyone know how to wire up an auxiliary 12v air pump with the pressure cut off switch? (Diagram / wire schematic) :)

    IMG_20181220_092217.jpg

I received the pump from a buddy who said it was "good to go" made the mistake of trusting the wiring underneath the mile of electrical tape when I tested it on a battery...

Unfortunately one of the 16ga wires became a fuse and instantly melted.
(Relay probably has welded contacts now too but I got a plenty of them.)

Pump still works though so no REAL harm done.

Used it to charge my 60 gallon since I haven't had a chance to wire in a 220v 60a breaker at my current place yet. :D

Thank you much, truly appreciated. I did actually see that, but wrote it off as being too simple..d'uh...

The gasket sealer is indeed the genius part of it, though, and methinks I now have my solution.

    Again, thanks very much!

Pretty much just a bundle of 18 gauge, p'raps one or two of something heavier...I reckon I will have a harness about 1" in diameter.

Pressure switches and relays don't care about polarity so there's different ways to do this. Here's one,

Switch circuit: 12V pos > fuse > switch in - switch out > pressure switch in - pressure switch out > pin 85 on relay -pin 86 on relay > ground

Power circuit: 12V pos > fuse > pin 30 on relay - pin 87 on relay > compressor red lead - compressor black lead > ground to chassis or Battery neg.

Either connection on pressure switch works for electrical in or out

Pins 85 and 86 on the relay are for the switch circuit
Pins 30 and 87 (also 87a on 5-pin relays) are what gets switched on/off

No idea why those numbers but I'm sure there's a good Cliff Claven story there.

It is not a 'mistake' or 'error' or 'fuck-up'...it is a 'modification'. That you meant to do.

if you have to drill extra holes to mount something, for example, you tell the (TW) world that they were drain holes. :amen:

I think you're looking for a bulhead connector if you want a true seal. Rubber grommets can be had from Amazon or local hardware stores(1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4" are common). The size is determined by the ID of the rubber with drill size noted(usually 1/8-3/16" greater to allow placement). If you pick a size that will pass a tube you have or can get with a snug fit you'll be able to house your wires in the tube where they run outside the cab. Here's a link to an amazon page of them.

Oops, that was supposed to be bulkhead not bulhead. There's also another factory grommet under the driver's seat just outboard of the frame.

Finally got around to making my fuse panel and drilling the hole for the Daystar firewall boot!
    IMG_20190405_140921.jpg

Annoying my circuit breaker doesn't "close" all the way but that's just a visual issue, not functional.

If you look carefully you can see the secret ingredient: the panel is made from an anodized aluminum roasting pan I found at Goodwill for $5. It took about an hour of cutting then grinding and sanding but it came out pretty well. As a bonus I had enough to make a mount for my ham radio display exactly like @Cannikin.

Key hole hangers ftw, I use them alot for blind mountings in trim carpentry. Nice reuse of already fabricated materialss.
