Is it a kit or do you have to order a bunch of sizes?

I ordered the Shop Kit from Silicone Intakes. Comes with 4 different sizes in various lengths. It was enough to do the majority of the lines on my 99 but some trucks might need more depending on year and options I guess. The link is for black but they have red and blue as well.

So I received my new bumpers and tire carrier last week. Started building the front bumper since that was needed the most right now.

This is what I am starting with. All prep work on the truck for the bumpers was previously completed and noted earlier in the thread.

The passenger frame horn is bent down about 1/4" + from where the driver side sits. Not much I can do about that and one of the reasons I wanted a DIY bumper. That way, I have been able to make the necessary fitment adjustments as I go instead of trying to rework something that was pre fabbed.

The first adjustment came with the first piece that gets bolted to the truck and is the base of the new bumper.

I bolted it up and because of the 2" x 4" crossmember and the 4xInnovations skid plate, I needed to do some trimming. I free handed the lines for what would be cut off.

Did the cutting with a cutoff wheel on my grinder. Worked out pretty good as there was very little additional trimming needed with a flapper wheel. There's about 1/8" clearance now, maybe a little more.

Next up was hanging the main back plate and top plate. The 3 pieces together form a box around the frame horns and position the bumper on the truck. I had to drill/enlarge new holes to account for the bent horn.

Made sure it was all level too.

Then came the end pieces. These are the recovery points ond complete the boxing in the the frame horns. Once I was happy with the position, I started tacking everything in place.

From there, I got a wild hair up my ass and thought it would be a good time to finish weld the main structure. That was a mistake since I had forgotten that metal will shrink as it cools, causing flat plates to bend to the side of the weld. Well, this made it a bitch to get the winch plate in place and also cause issues with remounting the assembly back on the truck. :frusty:

I also got tired of the flux core wire and all the clean up that comes with it. Also seems to take much longer to weld and doesn't get as good penetration on the steel. So I bought a bottle and went full MIG.

    Part 2 later.

I'm interested to see how your bumper comes out. I've been debating on a DIY kit or designing my own on solid works and build it from scratch.

Going to see my little brother and his family in Englewood. I should get there on the 8th and be there thru the 11th. Also have a friend in Golden that I might go see after that and before heading back to Tucson.

    Nice!

Safe travels. It’s been crazy weather here lately. There was a pretty dramatic avalanche by Copper Mountain on I-70.

Yeah, trying to avoid the higher elevations where I can. Kinda difficult to do going up to CO tho.o_O I'm gunna go check out the 4 Corners monument and then head east thru New Mexico cut up to Antonito and Alamosa and hit I25 going north into Englewood. Hopefully the weather holds out and sticks to the forecast. Cold but sunny.

There wasnt any bad accidents, just a bunch of fwd/rwd/California cars that couldnt get up the hills. worst spot was climbing up from Silverthorne. That alone took 2 hours just to reach the tunnel.....no more.

    Front bumper build, part deux.

First order of business was to get the center assembly to mount back up to the frame horns. With the welding I had done previously, things got a little tight and I wasn't able to slide the bumper back in place, let alone install the winch plate. I didn't take any pictures of it but I had to grind bevels into the frame horns on the top front, bottom front, outside front and the bottom edge going back to about the radiator support mount. This allowed the bumper to fit into place again since I had finish welded the inside edges at these spots and the beads were a little big to clear everything properly. Once that issue was resolved, I was able to work the winch plate into place with some coaxing and a BFH and get that tacked into place.

From there, I finish welded the winch plate in place and took a look at how the outer plate would mount below the winch plate. I had to do a little grinding with a flapper wheel to smooth out existing welds and allow that outer plate to mount properly. The I mocked up the winch fairlead plate and called it a day.

Part 3 tomorrow. The bumper grows its wings.

Do you by chance have a link or any part numbers to the PS rad and filter you used? I looked around online and wasn't able to find a rad that sized spec'd for a power steering application.

Both are from Amazon. The cooler is actually a trans cooler and works fine for the power steering.
