What's a good small offroading shovel?

Ah prospecting shovels, those are some serious kit. Another company in Oregon sells good quality tools as well. want to say it is called rogue, shovels how they use to be built out of proper steel.

Better question, who seated the axe head in the handle? Looks like it is 1/2 inch off.

 

This, those shovels are strong, will cut roots. There are civilian knocks offs that aren’t as strong, folds up into a plastic carrier. Having been in the Army we dug fox holes with them.

 

Sick set up... What are you using specifically to hold them? As well as the gas can?

 

I'm only ok with a trifold E-tool, because I stay away from bad stuck terrain. usually. You guys which get more stucker should carry full size shovels and a strong back. And friends with shovels and strong backs.

 

How you liking those warrior quicklatches? I keep eyeing them but that price...

 

I really like them. And yes, they are pricey. I held off for years, but I got tired of putting my shovel and axe in the cab every time I parked for a long period of time.

 

Cool cool... I'm thinking I might pull the trigger on a pair and use them alongside quick fists for my shovel/axe to reduce the cost... I just want something quick-release that I can actually lock when I'm leaving my truck for longer periods.

 

Word of caution...if you want to use Quickfists to mount your axe, do NOT use the plastic washers that come with the Quickfists. Use metal washers instead.

I had my axe mounted on my roof rack with Quickfists and when I was on the highway in the desert (very windy that day) going about 75mph, I hear this loud "THUNK" and look in my rearview mirror to see my axe twirling in the air behind my truck. Luckily we were in the slow lane and no one was behind me, and it landed off to the side.

Those plastic washers had snapped which allowed the Quickfists to slide off the bolts and off came both the axe and the Quickfists.

Replaced them with metal ones and haven't had any issues since.

I also keep the axe in the bed now.


Those Warrior Quicklatches look much more sturdy and safe IMO, if I had known about those back when I bought the Quickfists I would have gotten them instead.

 

Yeah I've got them on the rails right now and do the shuffle when leaving the truck but want something more secure for the rack I have on order. I have fender washers I took a grinder to so they fit the slot and they are crazy sturdy compared to the plastic ones.

I have Warrior Quicklatches for my shovel. I highly recommend them. They're easier to use than Quickfists and WAY more secure.

most small shovels are not great, i carry a full size now since its much easier to get leverage on and retired my murder spork to mainly weed work in the yard.

 

That is a lot cheaper!
