    Do you have a 2wd Prerunner (6 lug) or a 5lug?

6 lug is easy to convert since its built on the 4x4 frame, just have to source and bolt in the 4x4 components.

5 lug would be way too much work IMO and you'd be better off buying a 4x4.

Well I don't have a prerunner nor 6 lug. So it's going to be hard and expensive, is what your saying?

Would require a lot of custom fabrication cutting and welding to convert a 5lug into a 6 lug 4x4. Essentially rebuilding the entire truck. The Prerunners are easy bolt on conversions since everything is already there except the front drivetrain.

Although anything is possible with enough time and money

Sounds like he’s saying you’d come out ahead selling and putting the money towards one with 4x4

This ^^ you can find 4x4 1st gens for pretty darn cheap with higher miles if you don't mind putting the maintenance work into them. Or save up for a lower mileage 4x4 one

True, but I've already spent money on an alarm system for this truck

I doubt that will offset the cost in favor of doing a 4x4 mod on the truck you have now. Still would come out ahead paying for another alarm system on the next one,or pull the components depending on the system and just pay the labor to reinstall.

As far as I know the doors are the same between 5 lug and 6lug 1st gens as long as it's the same or close year...1995-97 97-2000 and 01-04 were the 3 different variations of 1st gens

IMO, making your a 5-Lug 4x4 is a waste of money unless you want to do a solid axle swap which is big $$$ (upwards of $5,000-$10,000 in some cases).

If you want 4x4, sell your truck and save up for one.

First 4WD and AWD are very different !!

I would do Solid axle swaps for $5,000 and make real good money .

OP since your asking this question You don`t have the skills at this time to do any of the work yourself .

which means lots of hours at a normal shop rate if you can find someone that will even take on the project

If you want a 4WD save your money and find one
